✨🏮I was enchanted by the dazzling summer festival, "Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival"!
The Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival is a summer festival held in Tsushima at Tennogawa Park and Tsushima Shrine.
It is said to have been attended by Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, has a history of nearly 600 years, and is registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. It is one of the three major river festivals in Japan and is considered the most luxurious.
The festival has various events and rituals over several months, but the most spectacular are the "Yoi Matsuri" and "Morning Festival" held on the fourth Saturday of July and the following Sunday. This year, they were held on July 22nd and 23rd.
During the Yoi Matsuri, five straw boats decorated with more than 500 lanterns row across Maruike Pond in Tennogawa Park, creating a fantastic sight. This scene is famous, and when you think of the Tennoji Festival, most people probably think of straw boats with lanterns on them.
Also, during the morning festival, a boat carrying Noh dolls is rowed across Maruike Pond, and young people from the Ichie floats jump into the Tenno River with Nunohko floats, creating a valiant sight.
The Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival is a wonderful festival where you can enjoy traditional Japanese culture and performing arts. Please come and see it at least once.
