Huangyanghe Reservoir is located in Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, in the eastern part of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province. The dam site is on the Huangyang River, 50 km southeast of Wuwei City. The reservoir controls a drainage area of 828 square kilometers. It is a medium-sized Class III annual regulation reservoir with comprehensive benefits, mainly for irrigation, but also for flood control, power generation, and tourism. The main structures are Class 3, and the secondary structures are Class 4. The current maximum dam height is 52 meters, with a total reservoir capacity of 56.44 million cubic meters and an irrigation area of 221,800 mu. The hub structures include a dam, a water conveyance tunnel, a flood discharge tunnel, and a dam-back power station. Huangyang River is a tributary of the Shiyang River system in the western inland of China. It originates from the Shuanglong Mountain, Moqi Mountain, and Heigou Mountain in Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County. The main tributaries are the Xiamen River and the Haxi River, which converge with the large and small gullies along the way and are intercepted by the Huangyang Reservoir at Shuixiakou in Zhonglu Township, Liangzhou District.
