[2025 Liuzhou Attraction] Travel Guide for Yaobu Ancient Town (Updated Mar)

Yaobu Ancient Town ( 窯埠古鎮) is located in Liuzhou, in southern China's Guangxi Province. To get here, you can take a bus or private car. It is also just as simple to take a taxi and drop off at the entrance next to the street. The best time to visit is in the evening, when the sun sets over the river and the lights on buildings become illuminated. Walking in, you are presented with the river on the right and a collection of people selling souvenirs and snacks. Keep walking ahead towards the main square, where everything is centered around a very impressive large pavillion that stand out amongst everything else. It is very photogenic from all angles and I liked this building alot. There are various small alleys to explore, with coffee shops, bars and restaurants selling local food and many other types of cuisine. You can also view and purchase traditional arts and crafts here too. You can visit here anytime of year, but spring and summer are the best times-although beware of mosquitoes. In winter it can get a little cold in the evening next to the river. In the evening, treat yourself to a tea bran hair wash (remember to book in advance). Day 2: Get up early and take photos at Longtan Park, capturing the iconic crooked tree, the Wind and Rain Bridge, and Mirror Mountain. Have breakfast at Gubu Market. Take an afternoon nap back at the hotel. Head to Yaobu Ancient Town around 4pm and have dinner there. For afternoon tea, try Qiaomei's, and for dinner, savor the delicious offerings at Dangniulao Beef Offal Hot Pot (remember to get a queue number on the app in advance). Pingle Day 3: Set off for Gongcheng in the morning to indulge in the unforgettable Gongcheng youcha (oil tea). Since it's on the way to Pingle, it's the perfect opportunity to stop by Fenghuangshan Spotted Fish Restaurant. Their youcha is rich and flavorful, and you must try their spotted fish and youcha bao (taro paste-filled buns). After lunch, head to Pingle. For accommodation, we recommend Zhixing Minsu, a renovated guesthouse with uniquely designed rooms. In the afternoon, visit the persimmon orchard or take a boat to the island across the river. Have dinner at the guesthouse restaurant; book your table and order your dishes with the owner in advance. [Alternative plan: If you don't stay in Pingle, you can spend a night in Gongcheng. We recommend Gongcheng Yaojia Minsu. The owner also runs Fenghuangshan Spotted Fish Restaurant, so you can have dinner there. Just tell the staff you'd like to reserve a table. Near the guesthouse, you can take a bamboo raft (around CNY 100 per raft). There's also a persimmon orchard within walking distance. In the morning, you can experience making youcha at the guesthouse.] Yangshuo Day 4: After breakfast at the guesthouse, embark on a 1-hour drive to Yangshuo. Stay at Xijie Shanxia Ou Yu, located within West Street (call the owner in advance to find out where to park). Have lunch at Wangjianglou Restaurant (remember to get a queue number on the app in advance). Around 4pm, rent an e-bike at the guesthouse and explore the Ten Mile Gallery. Navigate to Yichidaotian Cafe and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Return to West Street for dinner. Day 5: Borrow an e-bike from the guesthouse again and have breakfast at Haoyoulai Snack Bar. On the way back, stop by the market to buy some passion fruit and young ginger before heading home.

🔜 Arrived at Liuzhou Railway Station at noon, dropped off the luggage and headed straight to Ma'anshan (p2️⃣-3️⃣). Originally wanted to take the elevator, but it was not open, so had to climb up. However, the climb offered a lot of scenery. It took a total of more than two hours to go up and down. Got hungry around four o'clock and wanted to eat the Luosifen recommended by the driver, but Erkong Apo's Luosifen was closed. Felt a bit sad and then just ate at another Luosifen place next door (p4️⃣, forgot the name, sob sob), which was super delicious! Really recommend it! It was a blessing in disguise. The noodles were chewy, and I also ordered a bowl of cold mixed noodles, which was amazingly good! Sour and spicy, so delicious. After eating, wanted to take the bus to Wenmiao, but by some mix-up ended up at Liujing Bridge and did a city walk, took some photos. In the evening, went straight to Wenmiao and Yao Bu ancient town (p5️⃣-7️⃣). Wenmiao is worth a visit, but the ancient town is just average, quite commercialized, mostly for taking portrait photos. The Dangdang fried ice was so-so, but the corn syrup water was not bad. In the afternoon, went to Longtan Park (p8️⃣-1️⃣0️⃣). It was sunny that day with a bit of wind, really comfortable. No need to rent a car, just walk and stop, two hours is enough. Also played some amusement projects in the park. Didn't have dinner in the evening, went straight to Wuxing Pedestrian Street (p1️⃣1️⃣-1️⃣3️⃣). First went to eat at Pork Shop, this shop is right opposite to Fugui Glutinous Rice Dumplings. The honey-flavored ones are delicious! The spicy ones are a bit too spicy, not recommended for those who can't handle spice. Then it's Fugui Glutinous Rice Dumplings! I really love it, went there specially again on the third day, tried five flavors. My personal ranking is that yogurt strawberry and molten matcha red bean are the best! At noon, went to eat the very popular Feng Zhang Luosifen (p1️⃣4️⃣), ordered a dry mix Luosifen and refreshing noodles, both were not bad but not as good as the hype online, haha, still recommend the one eaten on the first day more. In the afternoon, went to Liuzhou Museum (p1️⃣5️⃣). The museum is quite small, didn't expect to finish the tour in less than an hour. We thought it would take a long time, so we didn't plan anything else and went back to Wuxing Pedestrian Street to stroll and eat. Ate Fugui Glutinous Rice Dumplings again, and also tried Ba Wang Ji Liu, recommend! Ordered a three-mix, I like the rice cake the most!
