To talk about the Yaoko Art Museum,
you first need to know about the supermarket "YAOKO"!
It is a supermarket that operates mainly in the Kanto region.
It goes without saying that Saitama residents are surrounded by Yaoko stores, but for those who don't know about it, I'll explain. Even I didn't know much about it, and I've grown even more attached to it now that I've learned that the supermarket I usually go to has such a story behind its origins~🙆♀️
[Founding] Yaoko was founded in 1890 (Meiji 23). It was originally a greengrocer called Yaoko in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture. The roots of today's Yaoko lie in the fact that founder Gihei Iino started a greengrocer.
[Conversion to a supermarket] As Japan entered the period of high economic growth after World War II,
lifestyles and consumer needs changed,
Yaoko also underwent a transformation. In 1957 (Showa 32), Tatsuro Iino (grandson of the founder) opened the first supermarket in Kawagoe City,
and began a full-scale transition to a supermarket format. According to the Yaoko Museum of Art, when it first opened, they had no plans to expand into a chain.
[Expansion and growth] From the 1970s to the 1980s, Yaoko expanded its business by increasing the number of stores, mainly in Saitama Prefecture. During this period, it established a management policy that was close to the community and established itself as a supermarket loved by local consumers.
[Corporate philosophy and characteristics] Yaoko's corporate philosophy is "customer first" and "close to the community," and it strives to provide high-quality products and services. It also actively incorporates fresh locally produced ingredients, contributing to the development of local agriculture and the economy. 👩🎓Yaoko Museum of Art
Most of the works at the Yaoko Museum of Art were painted by the artist Misu Uji.
I didn't know his name either, and this was the first time I'd seen his paintings, but I think they're just fine! He was said to be a master of modern realism, and his works as a popular artist were not simply realistic paintings that precisely depict the subject like a photograph, but human works that reflect his gentle perspective. His works, which show his extraordinary technical ability to capture objects and warm depictions, are of such high quality that you will want to visit and confront them again and again, making for a rich collection. I thought his flower works were very beautiful! _____________________
🎯Personal review🎯
It feels more like a gallery than a museum, so I recommend visiting with the feeling of going to a cafe. I visited on a weekday after 11:00, but the cafe was full and there was a waiting time! While I was looking at the paintings, a seat at the cafe became available, so I didn't feel like I was waiting😆
The postcards and envelopes at the museum shop in the 10th and 11th pictures were so cute that I bought an envelope😉 220 yen for a pack of 5, so cheap😝 The stationery for vertical envelopes was also cute, so just looking at the museum shop will get you excited~ If you come to Kawagoe, please stop by~
