Yarra Valley, Melbourne, Australia Food and wine lovers welcome!
Yarra Valley Day Trip Recommendation Leisurely time with food and wine
Located northeast of Melbourne, Australia, Yarra Valley is about an hour's drive away and is a famous winery and food paradise. We visited Yarra Valley three times during this trip, and each time we had a different experience. Today we’re going to share an easy itinerary suitable for your first visit, so that you can fully enjoy the food, wine and scenery here.
Breakfast: Yarra Glen Bake House
The day's journey begins at Yarra Glen Bake House in the town of Yarra Glen. The prices at this bakery are much more affordable than in downtown Melbourne, and it has a wide selection of coffee and breakfast, perfect for simply filling your stomach. However, the taste is not particularly amazing, and it is more like a small shop visited by locals on a daily basis. If you value cost performance, this would be a good choice.
Lunch: Yarra Valley Dairy Cheese Feast
When you come to Yarra Valley, you can’t miss the popular cheese workshop of Yarra Valley Dairy. This place specializes in making local handmade cheese, which has a rich and delicate taste and is a perfect match with local wine.
First visit: We ordered a cheese platter for 2-4 people (about 50 Australian dollars), paired with 25 Australian dollars of white wine. The platter contained a variety of flavored cheeses, accompanied by bread, crackers and fig jam, with rich flavors. The portion was huge, and the four of us couldn't finish it, so we packed it up to take away.
Second visit: This time we ordered toasted cheese and fondue, which was better than the platter we ordered last time! The rich cheese aroma and warm bread go perfectly together, super satisfying! In addition, the environment here is pleasant, and you can sit leisurely for a few hours and slowly savor the food and beautiful scenery.
Afternoon: Domaine Chandon Sparkling Winery Wine Tasting Experience
After having a good meal, we went to the world-renowned Domaine Chandon Winery. This is the Australian branch of Moët & Chandon, famous for producing high-quality sparkling wine.
Recommended experience: The wine tasting experience in the Lounge Bar is more leisurely than standing and tasting. It is more enjoyable to sit in the comfortable seating area. Through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the vineyard.
Must-try wine: The most recommended sparkling red wine has rich fruity aroma and delicate bubbles, and you will never get tired of it.
If you are a wine lover, this is definitely worth a visit.
Sunset beauty: Burkes Lookout overlooking Melbourne city
After finishing the winery tour, we drove to Burkes Lookout, a beautiful scenic spot near Yarra Valley. Standing on the hill, you can overlook the entire Melbourne city, and the scenery is spectacular.
Recommended time: Come in the evening, when the weather is good, you can see the super dreamy sunset.
Note: The weather on the mountain is changeable. We encountered a sudden heavy rain this time and were forced to leave after not staying for long, but we still think it is worth it!
