We have been to the Double Dragon Cave in Jinhua and a friend gave us information about an underground river/cave in Lanxi. So, we went to Lanxi by Didi and arrived there in less than an hour. The place was a little bit far away from the City and it is quite the countryside feel. The river had a very dark brown in color and we were told it was because of the continuos rain. We paid 80 rmb each and we had a tour guide. First we had an 8-10 minute boat ride going to the cave so as they say underground river. The cave was actually better than the Double Dragon Cave. We really liked the last part of the cave. It was so huge and so magnificent. #urbanexplorer

The central hall also has five bays, surrounded by a corridor and topped with a single-eaved hip-and-gable roof. The central bay has a five-frame beam with double corridors at the front and back, featuring moon beams. The four main pillars are made of cypress, catalpa, tung, and toon wood, respectively, symbolizing "a hundred sons sharing the same spring." The pillars are so thick that one person can hardly embrace them. The secondary bays combine raised beams and penetrating tie-beam structures, also with moon beams. Each pillar has a bracket complex at the top. The central bay has a single-eaved archway-style structure with upturned eaves supported by brackets. The front forehead beams are all moon beams. A horizontal plaque bearing the inscription "Admired for Generations" hangs above the gatehouse. The corridor has a flat ceiling and 16 square bluestone pillars, each with a bracket complex at the top and a square base. The east and west corridors have four pillars and three-frame beams with single corridors at the front and back. The west corridor has collapsed, leaving only the outer wall of the rear eaves. The bedrooms have seven bays, and the beams and frames have been replaced. The front eaves columns are square bluestone without bases. The floor is made of rammed earth, and the roof is a hard-mountain style. This large-scale building, constructed with thick materials, is the main structure in the village and holds significant cultural relic value. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

The history of Chang Le Village can be traced back to the late Yuan Dynasty. When Zhu Yuanzhang led his army through this area, he saw the villagers living in harmony and couldn't help but exclaim: "This is truly a village of Chang Le (everlasting happiness)!" Thus, the name "Chang Le" was spread and gradually evolved into "Chang Le." Designed according to the principles of the Nine Palaces and Eight Trigrams, Chang Le Village ingeniously blends natural and cultural landscapes, earning it the reputation of being a real-life version of the famous painting "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains." Chang Le Village preserves a large number of ancient buildings from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with a total of 127 ancient buildings listed as national-level protected structures. It is the first village in China to be entirely included in a key protection unit. These ancient buildings not only showcase the artistic charm of ancient architecture but also carry a rich history and culture. Ancestral halls and temples within the village, such as the Jin Dazong Ancestral Hall and Chongde Ancestral Hall, are not only places for villagers to worship their ancestors but also precious legacies showcasing ancient architectural art and culture. In addition to the well-preserved ancient building complex, traditional activities such as releasing seven-star lotus lanterns, the Xiangyinjiuli (village drinking ceremony), the medicinal cuisine workshop, and Wu Opera performances attract many tourists. Chang Le Village is listed as a second-batch Chinese Traditional Village, a 3A-level scenic spot in Zhejiang Province, and its ancient building complex is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

Xiangxian Hall in Changle Village was built by Jin Lian, the 21st generation of the Jiahui branch of the Jin family of Changle. According to the Jin family genealogy, it was built during the Jingtai period of the Ming Dynasty (1450–1457). Covering an area of 738 square meters, it faces south and features a layout of three rooms, four entrances, and a passageway. The first entrance is the foyer, the second is the secondary hall (theater stage), the third is the main hall, and the fourth is the ancestral hall. The beams and columns inside the hall are thick and tall, and the brackets and beams are exquisitely carved. The front facade of the foyer is designed in the style of a pailou (traditional Chinese archway). The roof of the central bay is elevated, and under the eaves are three layers of elephant-trunk style ang (bracket arms) with seven stepped dougong (interlocking wooden brackets). The roof is in the xieshan style (hip-and-gable roof), with a double-eaved structure in the secondary bays, slightly lower than the central bay, creating a richly layered facade that evokes a sacred atmosphere. Xiangxian Hall is also known as Jiahui Hall, named after the two characters "Xiangxian," which come from a poem by Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi: "A capable minister can establish a state, but having a son doesn't guarantee he'll be virtuous like his ancestors." The hall is primarily used for theatrical performances and funeral ceremonies. The ancient stage in the courtyard bears the inscription "Mirror of Life." The wind blows through the wooden beams, emitting a few mournful sounds, and the costumes hanging on the stage sway gently, as if waiting for the moment to take the stage. In 2018, Zhuge Bagua Village was awarded the title of the first batch of National Primary and Secondary School Research and Practice Education Bases, one of the four such bases in Zhejiang Province. On July 28, 2019, Zhuge Bagua Village was selected as one of the first batch of National Key Rural Tourism Villages.

There are gatehouses on both sides of the entrance hall of Prime Minister Zhuge's Temple. They are one-bay and have through-beam beams. The eaves columns of the foyer are 5.2 meters high. The three middle rooms are the main entrance. There are plank doors between the golden columns. There are drum stones on the outside of the four doors of the main room. The five-beam frame has grass beams in front and double steps in the back. There is a flat chessboard and the moon beam is load-bearing. The secondary bay's raised beams are combined with through beams. There is an exquisitely polished brick screen wall at the end of the room. The central hall has three bays with two corridors. It is an open hall with a hip roof. The eaves columns are 5.6 meters high, the golden columns are 6.6 meters high, and the ridge purlin is 8.9 meters from the ground. The eaves columns and mountain columns are square stone columns, with square column bases underneath. The golden pillar is a wooden pillar with a drum-shaped base and a covering basin underneath. The main room has five beams with double steps in front and back, and are flat beams decorated with shallow relief patterns. The ox legs are carved with opera characters. Because it is backed by Taoyuan Mountain, the dormitory and the left and right bell and drum towers are built on a high platform. There are steps at the end of the two wings. Going up 12 steps is the platform, and going up another 10 steps is the dormitory, with a total height of 5.1 meters. There is a bluestone railing in front of the platform, and the railing is engraved with patterns such as unicorns, celestial horses, and Ruyi boxes, which are original objects from the Ming Dynasty. This building is one of the main ancestral halls in Zhuge Village and has high cultural relic value. National key cultural relic protection unit.

Zhuge Chongxing Hall is located at No. 59, Xingtang Road, Zhuge Village, Zhuge Administrative Village, Zhuge Town, Lanxi City. It consists of three rooms, three entrances and two halls. It faces northeast and southwest, covers an area of ​​497 square meters, and was built in the Ming Dynasty. The building has four pillars and five floors with brick-carved archway-style gatehouse, each floor is supported by brackets and decorated with owls at both ends. A vertical plaque with the word "Enrong" is placed just below the ridge tower. There are high relief carvings of lions playing with balls, flowers, plants, birds and animals on the facade. Entering the gate is a hallway, and the original patio has been covered. The front hall has five beams with single steps in front and back, a moon beam structure, with a sitting beam on top and brackets on the bottom. The second room has a through-beam frame. The middle entrance has five beams with double beams in the front and single beam in the back, square beams, through-beam style in the secondary bay, and moon beam structure. There are also hallways in the middle and back rooms. Originally there were two fish ponds, but now they are covered. The back is supported by a beam, with a flat chessboard and sparrows underneath. The golden column in the middle has a shaped column base with a cover basin underneath, while the rest have drum-shaped column bases. The floor is made of cement, the roof is gabled and the roof is decorated with bricks. The building has high cultural value. National key cultural relic protection unit.

Atop the roof, a gourd pierced by a Fangtian halberd adds a touch of restraint, hierarchy, and vibrancy to the facade. The hall underwent extensive renovations during the Qing Jiaqing period, led by Jinshi Mengyan. Its magnificent Suzhou-style brick-carved facade makes it one of the eighteen halls in Zhuge Village. Inside, exhibits showcase the farming and studying tradition upheld by Zhuge Liang's descendants, adhering to his ancestral teachings. A small square lies in front of the hall. To the left is a side room, and to the right, across a narrow alley, stands a well-preserved Lou Shang Ting (Upstairs Hall) residence, now a wax museum after restoration. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

The Grand Hall, one of the eighteen halls in Zhuge Village, features a three-entry, two-courtyard structure built in the late Ming Dynasty. The exact construction date is not recorded in the genealogy. It was a private hall belonging to the Yongmu Hall branch of the Zhuge family. The hall has three entrances and a Suzhou-style brick-carved doorway. Originally, there was an ornate gate about twenty steps in front of the hall, decorated with exquisite wood carvings. Unfortunately, it was demolished in 1972, though the foundation remains. A pair of flagpole stones stands on either side of the main gate. According to the genealogy, Zhuge Rong, who served as county magistrate in eight counties in Jiangsu during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, was a member of the Grand Hall branch. Seven halls in Zhuge Village have flagpoles, and the Grand Hall is one of them. Following the Zhuge family motto, "Become a good minister or a good doctor," the hall now serves as a Traditional Chinese Medicine museum, dedicated to inheriting and promoting the family's traditional medical culture. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

This residence is a typical three-room, two-entry, two-hall building in Zhuge Village, with a front hall and rear building structure. The rear building has an upper-story hall, side rooms, and a garden at the back. This type of house requires a large foundation and was typically owned by large families. Located west of the Grand Hall, the house faces south, with the Grand Hall's courtyard to the east, the alley leading to Xingyuan Hall to the south, residences of the same clan to the west, and the garden and side rooms to the north. The house reflects the Ming Dynasty architectural style, with the exact construction date unknown, estimated to be during the late Ming Dynasty. The house features a hard mountain roof, horse-head walls, and yin-yang tiles. It has a total width of approximately 10 meters, a total depth of approximately 21 meters, and covers an area of approximately 250 square meters. The main entrance is located in the east wing, featuring a Suzhou-style brick-carved gatehouse. The front facade of the front section has an inward-sloping, eight-character brick-carved screen wall. The lower level is constructed with beams and moon beams, with a veranda in front and relief carvings under the eave purlins. A balcony supported by corbels is located upstairs facing the courtyard. The rear section is a three-room, two-bay upper-story hall structure, with a courtyard between the front and rear sections. The rear platform is higher than the front, and stone steps lead up from the courtyard. The upper-story hall structure in the rear courtyard is exquisite, with the main beam frame featuring an inner four-frame structure with a four-rafter, curved-roof, and double-stepped beam, constructed with moon beams and intricate relief carvings under the purlins. The side beams of the secondary rooms are also moon beams. Both the lower and upper halls are built with moon beams. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit.

Zhuge Village Grand Hall is located in the center of Zhuge Bagua Village. It is the only remaining Zhuge Liang Memorial Hall in the Jiangnan region. The Grand Hall was first built in the Ming Dynasty. It faces south and is in front of the Zhongchi Pond. Its architectural style is simple and elegant, and it is magnificent and well preserved. The scale and shape of the existing Grand Hall are the result of expansion and renovation over many generations. In 1940, the Grand Hall fell into disrepair, so materials were purchased and craftsmen were hired. After two years, the renovation of the Grand Hall was completed. During the Cultural Revolution, the Grand Hall lost the maintenance and protection it deserved and was used as a cowshed by the production team. By the 1980s, the fourth and fifth courtyards had seriously collapsed. In 1990, a council for rebuilding the Grand Hall was formed, and all villagers, regardless of their surnames, donated enthusiastically. After two years of construction and a cost of RMB 140,000, the Grand Hall was completely renovated and regained its former glory. The architectural structure of the Grand Hall consists of five courtyards and three bays, with a construction area of ​​700 square meters. Its architectural features include a gate archway, a central hip roof, a ridge about 10 meters high, brackets under the eaves, black columns and red lintels, and multiple floors. It is the most gorgeous and eye-catching building in the village in appearance. The Grand Hall is not only a memorial hall for Zhuge Liang, but also hosts important activities of the Zhuge family. Grand ancestor worship ceremonies are held here on the 14th day of the fourth lunar month and the 28th day of the eighth lunar month every year. Inside the Grand Hall are displayed Zhuge Liang’s spirit tablet and portrait, as well as the Zhuge clan’s direct lineage table, historical documents such as "The Memorial to the Emperor on Leaving the Capital" and "The Admonitions to My Son".
