In August, I took a bus home and transited in Mianyang, China, where I stayed for three days. It was really pleasant to stroll around the small city! We arrived in the afternoon and went to the People's Park in the city center for a walk in the evening to digest our food. It was built during the Xianqing period of Emperor Gaozong of Tang (656-661 AD), and the tower was ten zhang (about 100 feet) high, ranking first among the four famous towers at the time (Tengwang Pavilion was nine zhang high, Yellow Crane Tower was six zhang high, and Yueyang Tower was three zhang high). Yue Wang Tower has been damaged and rebuilt several times. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, a large fire destroyed most of the tower, and it was extensively repaired during the Yuan Dynasty.
