There are many scenic spots worth exploring, so it is definitely not something that can be visited in just a few days. For tourists who are still in the initial stage of getting to know Kyushu, most of them will start with "Fukuoka" in Kitakyushu! This time we started driving by ourselves after entering Fukuoka Airport. We went to Yufuin and Kumamoto along the way and then back to Fukuoka. For the Kagoshima part, we chose to take the Shinkansen to Fukuoka! The advantage of self-driving is that you can flexibly adjust your itinerary and explore delicious food and attractions. What is particularly special is that we have arranged to visit Sakurajima, located in Kagoshima Prefecture, the southernmost tip of Kyushu. It is one of the few active volcanic islands that tourists can visit. In order to make tourists feel more at ease, this time we will briefly introduce "Sakurajima" The island's volcanic eruptions and historical information will also be recommended, as well as self-driving itineraries and other transportation methods around the island, so that everyone can dominate all the must-visit attractions on the first visit. In addition to Mount Fuji, there is another famous volcano in Japan - Sakurajima Volcano. Like Mount Fuji, Sakurajima is an active volcano that exploded in July 2022. You can usually see the observation deck to see the quiet moments of the volcano up close, worth a visit.  

#March Good Places 2025 Sakurajima is an active volcano located about 4 kilometers from the center of Kagoshima and must be reached by cruise. The ferry time is about 15 to 20 minutes or so, some travel day passes will charter a boat. Sakurajima is also known as the Seven Color Island because of the terrain, which presents different appearances at different times and in different directions. Although it is a volcanic attraction, unlike Kumamoto Aso Volcano, you can visit the crater up close. Attractions are mostly observation decks with different directions such as Arimura Lava Observatory where you can see Sakurajima from different angles from the highest point. There is also the Yunopei Observatory and the Sakurajima Lava Waterfront Park foot bath where you can take a dip. As for whether the Sakurajima volcano is active or not, whether there is smoke from the top of the mountain, whether it sprays volcanic ash or not depends on luck.

Disembarkation days are an essential part of any cruise. This time, we had two disembarkation days, in Fukuoka and Kagoshima. On the first day in Fukuoka, I chose a guided tour and visited the Shikanoshima Island that I had been longing to see. I finally saw the white torii gate, exactly as it appears in online photos. It was a bit touching, haha. Then, it was back to the Tenjin shopping district for some shopping, and I also checked in at 7-Eleven for their super popular fruit and vegetable cups. I almost broke the machine because I didn't know how to operate it 😭 On the second day, we explored Kagoshima on our own. I had been wanting to visit a restaurant in Sengan-en Garden, and I took photos from the same spot as others. Getting the perfect shot is a serious business. The taxi fare from the port was over 200, which was painful enough, and then we had to queue for over half an hour for a scenic spot! While we were eating, my younger brother suddenly said he wanted to see the volcanic ash at the foot of the volcano. Me?? Excuse me?? Is this the kind of imagination kids have? So, we took a bus and then the cruise ship to Sakurajima. That wasn't the end of it. We then took a shuttle bus for an hour to the observation deck to see the volcano. Wow, we didn't do anything in Japan except travel by car. I've completely fallen in love with cruise travel. You can live a happy, isolated life at sea, doing only three things every day: eating, playing, and sleeping, briefly escaping the pressures of everyday life. It's especially great for family trips. You don't have to compromise your personal interests for group activities. Everyone can find something they're interested in, and you can even visit Japan and South Korea without a visa. Since returning, I've been recommending the Glory of the Seas to everyone, hoping they'll all gain five pounds like me, hahaha!

Sakurajima volcano in heavy rain and haze 🌋😅 Sakurajima is one of the most famous active volcanoes in Kyushu, Japan. The other one is Aso Volcano, the hometown of Kumamoto Kumamoto Exhibition. It is definitely a must-see attraction in Kagoshima and Kumamoto! It is very simple to get to Sakurajima Volcano. You can take a boat to the island from the boat pier in the city. There are boats every 15 minutes, and then take a special sightseeing bus for a tour, which takes about half a day. It’s the rainy season now, and we all know that it’s difficult to see Sakurajima volcano from a distance, but since it’s a rare opportunity to come, we really have to check in and take a picture, because we don’t know when the next time will be!
