Yuquan Temple is located at the foot of Tianjing Mountain in the north of Tianshui City. It was founded in the Tang Dynasty. It was named after the clear and sweet Jade Spring on the mountain and the sentence "The northern suburb of the mountain temple, the famous mountain Jade Spring" chanted by Liang Gongbi, a Qinzhou teacher in the Yuan Dynasty, when he built the temple. Yuquan Temple has been rebuilt and expanded many times since its establishment. At its peak, it had more than 90 buildings. There are more than 60 buildings left, including 5 buildings from the Ming Dynasty and the rest from various periods of the Qing Dynasty. The architectural art style of Yuquan Temple is based on the inheritance of traditional architectural art and integrates local architectural characteristics. The architectural layout is distributed according to Taoist regulations. On the central axis running from north to south, there are seven magnificent buildings, including the Jade Emperor Hall, the Three Pure Ones Hall, and the Archway. In the hills, mounds, and valleys in the east, west, and south, there are large-scale sacrificial shrines, temples, spring pavilions, and stele corridors. There are 47 steles, 11 stone tablets and 34 brick carvings in the temple, all of which are from the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Among the many steles, the four-sided Daoliu stele engraved in the Yuan Dynasty is particularly precious. Its handwriting is clear and the content is complete. It is praised by cultural relics experts as a "national" stele. In addition, the four-sided cursive poetry stele by the great calligrapher Zhao Mengfu of the Yuan Dynasty is also a rare stele. There are 50 ancient cypresses in the temple, of which 7 are more than a thousand years old. The "braided cypress" in Yuquan is a strange and beautiful tree. The tree has hanging roots and exposed claws, and the roots and stems are intertwined, shaped like a woman's braids, so it is called "braided cypress" in ancient times.
