The Jiaxing Zicheng Ruins are the site of the successive prefectural government offices in Jiaxing and the former site of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's Tingwang Mansion. The Zicheng Ruins were first built during the Huanglong period of the Three Kingdoms Wu. During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, a seven-entrance Tingwang Mansion was built within Zicheng, historically known as the "Seven Layers of Heaven." In 1937, the enemy and puppet regime built the Pacification Headquarters barracks here. The south gate tower of Zicheng is the only ancient city tower remaining on the city walls in Zhejiang Province.

A very comfortable city. Really quaint. The hotel I stayed in was near the Yuehe Historical District. I walked to the Yuehe Historical District, where there is the God of Wealth Hall and Zongzi Cultural Museum. There is a flower and bird market next door, and then I walked to the Zicheng Ruins Park. There is a Catholic church nearby where you can take photos. Then I walked to the Haogu Pagoda Courtyard, where Wu Zixu is enshrined. You can walk to the top of the tower inside and see the panoramic view of Jiaxing City. Then I walked to the Nanhu Scenic Area. The road along the way is very beautiful, passing by Lanxiu Garden and Shao Garden. It is very beautiful inside and free. Remember to take a look. Jiaxing's Sub-city Site is a rare and well-preserved prefectural government site from ancient to modern times in China, and has been listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. To understand the Sub-city is to understand Jiaxing. The Sub-city is said to have been built on the south bank of Jiu Creek, founded during the third year of Huanglong in the Wu Kingdom of the Three Kingdoms period (i.e., 231 AD), to commemorate the auspicious sign of wild rice. This is the earliest city wall of Jiaxing. In the first year of Wende of the Tang Dynasty (888), Jiaxing expanded and built the large city (mother city), the old city was called the Sub-city (inner city), which later became the site of successive prefectural governments and the former residence of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's King of Listening, representing the roots of Jiaxing. The Sub-city has the Huayue Pavilion, commemorating Zhang Xian's 'clouds break and the moon comes, flowers play with the shadow', and the Huaisu Pavilion, in memory of the talented woman Su Xiaoxiao from the Southern Qi Dynasty. The Sub-city's Qiao Tower was built during the Yuan Dynasty and is the only ancient city tower remaining on the city walls in Zhejiang Province. In front of the Qiao Tower, there is a pair of stone lions that have reunited after a century. The four barracks of the Pacification Command during the Republic of China period are municipal cultural relics protection units in Jiaxing. Underground, the foundation of the city wall from the Five Dynasties period has been excavated, along with the central axis buildings such as the roadway, ceremonial gate, stone archway, main hall, and second hall, dating from the Five Dynasties to the Qing Dynasty.

Jiaxing Zicheng is the earliest city wall of Jiaxing. The city has historically been the site of county, prefecture, military, circuit, and prefecture yamen. During the Yuan Dynasty, a tower named 'Liqiao' was built above the main gate of Zicheng. The city tower was rebuilt twice during the Ming Dynasty. The current Zicheng tower and the east and west side walls were rebuilt in the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1908). It is the only ancient city tower remaining on the city walls in Zhejiang Province.
