#cherryblossom2024 In Tokyo for a short stay but looking for a temple alternative that's not so crowded but equally impressive as Senso-ji? Zojo-ji is the perfect place. We visited on a Sunday and it was such a pleasant experience unlike Senso-ji which was packed to the rafters. Zojo-ji has much more Sakuras in the temple grounds than Senso-ji, and most were blooming on our March 31st visit!. With dolls all lined up alongside the Sakuras, and Tokyo tower in the background, its simply art. 🌸🌸🌸

6.21, this year's summer solstice, happened to be in Tokyo, so I went to this 'Million Candle Night,' which is said to be a once-a-year limited event, intended to pray for the souls of those who have passed away due to natural disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis, etc.) over the years. The location is at Zojoji Temple, very close to Tokyo Tower. I went there around 16:30, and during the day, you could see from the entrance of the temple, a row of white candles extending to the steps, all the way to the main stage. After dark, the candles were lit, and the scene was spectacular. Moreover, to support this event, at 20:00, Tokyo Tower would even turn off its lights for a while, leaving only the candles glowing. Unfortunately, I went to have dinner at that time and missed the moment when the lights were turned off. Speaking of Zojoji Temple itself, it's quite nice to visit during the day, with a genuine exhibition of the temple, a row of windmill Jizo statues for praying for children, and even the graveyard of the Tokugawa family.
