Prince Edward Island, Canada
Prince Edward Island is one of Canada's thirteen provinces and territories, located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in the Atlantic Ocean, adjacent to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. The island has several nicknames: "Flowerman of the Bay," "Birthplace of the Confederacy," and "Cradle of the Confederacy." Its capital and largest city is Charlottetown. It is one of the three Maritime provinces and one of the four Atlantic provinces.
Before the influx of Europeans, this was the traditional territory of the local indigenous people, the Mi'kmaq, and it was colonized by the French in 1604 as part of the Acadian Colony.
At the end of the French and Indian War in 1763, the island was ceded to Britain as part of the Colony of Nova Scotia, and in 1769 it became a British colony in its own right. Prince Edward Island hosted the Charlottetown Conference in 1864 to discuss the union of the Maritime Provinces; however, that conference became the first in a series of conferences that led to the formation of the Canadian Confederation in 1867. Prince Edward Island was initially hesitant about confederation, but in 1873, faced with bankruptcy and railroad construction due to land issues, became Canada's seventh province.
Before 1997, Prince Edward Island was probably more well-known in Hong Kong than Toronto and Vancouver, because it was probably the province with the lowest threshold for Hong Kong people to immigrate to Canada at that time. Even though I didn't immigrate, I knew about this place, and when I traveled to eastern Canada, it became a place I must visit.
If this is your first stop in eastern Canada, you might like this place, but if you drive from Toronto, you will pass through New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maine, and then enter New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in Canada before arriving at Prince Edward Island.
There are so many beautiful sights along the way that I didn't feel anything when I arrived at Prince Edward Island. But this is not because I am tired of the beautiful scenery, but compared with the previous ones, the scenery here is really unremarkable. If you want to have a pure vacation, then this may be a good choice, after all, the supporting facilities are relatively complete. #OverseasTravel #CanadaTourism #Atlantic #Gulf of St. Lawrence #canadatravel #IslandHoliday #staycation
