Embracing Serenity: Immersed in Nature at Lake Bohinj
#closetonature #100waysoftravel #naturebeauty #slovenia #bohinj #lakeday
Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest natural lake, offers a perfect escape into nature’s tranquility. During our two-night stay near the lake, we fully immersed ourselves in its serene beauty. The lake’s glassy, mirror-like surface reflected the surrounding mountains, creating a breathtaking backdrop that made every moment feel magical. We spent our days kayaking across the calm waters, soaking in the pristine environment, and hiking around the lush, green trails that circled the lake. The peaceful atmosphere, with the soft sound of water lapping against the shore, provided the perfect retreat from the world, allowing us to truly relax and connect with nature. It was the ideal setting for slowing down and recharging amidst Slovenia’s stunning landscapes.
Lake Bohinj, Slovenia
After visiting Lake Bled and the nearby quaint little town Radovljica (known for beekeeping traditions), we drove for 30 more minutes to reach Lake Bohinj, nestled in the Triglav national park.
Compared to Lake Bled, this lake has a more laid-back and local vibe, and also has hot air balloon services. People are also swimming, SUP and kayaking here, but the whole setting is more pure nature because of Triglav, which is the highest mountain in Slovenia (2864m, part of the Juliana Alps). Note this is the only national park in Slovenia.
Apart from the lake area, there are canyons, valleys and hiking trails in the national park. Lots of outdoor activity options, you won’t get bored. #slovenia #summervacation ##Lakebohinj

Like Lake Breed, Lake Bohin is located in Trigrau National Park and is about three times the size of Lake Breed. The lake draws a beautiful blue gradient, and you will be thrilled by the high transparency of the water. You can also see the appearance of the famous "golden mass" coming and going with the naked eye. There are no specialised tourist attractions here, but it is especially recommended for people who want to play by moving their bodies, such as trekking, cycling, fishing and canoeing.
Triglav, Slovenia
#mountainhike
Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia at 2,864 meters, is a symbol of the country and a popular hiking destination. Located in Triglav National Park, it offers trails for various skill levels. The ascent typically takes 2-3 days, with overnight stays in mountain huts. The final stretch to the summit requires climbing via ferrata (fixed cables) and provides thrilling views of alpine landscapes. Highlights include glacial valleys, crystal-clear lakes, and diverse wildlife. The hike is both challenging and rewarding, offering a mix of adventure and stunning natural beauty. Climbing Triglav is considered a rite of passage for Slovenians.

Whether it was paddling leisurely or simply pausing to enjoy the stillness of nature, kayaking at Bohinj was both relaxing and invigorating. It’s the perfect way to connect with the lake’s tranquility while indulging in a bit of outdoor fun.

Hidden gem, Bohinj lake
Travelled to this place via public bus transport service from Ljubljana main bus station, estimated 2 hours to arrive. Most visitors will go lake bled and overlooked Bohinj lake. This place is great for a boat ride (40 mins per one way trip), hiking in the forest which is less crowded. Autumn season is fabulous, with all the maples scattered around in the background giving the rusty fall scenery, so beautiful, so fairytale. Do drop by if you have a chance in Slovenia, highly recommend.

The lake at the end of the world -- Lake Bohinj
Lush green ridges stretch out before your eyes. Coming here in early autumn, the colors start to become a bit variegated. The lake water is emerald green and clear. This is a travel and vacation destination in Europe. The parking lot has cars from many European countries, all here for summer vacation.
For hundreds of years, the village of Bohinj has quietly nestled on the shaded side of the Alps, surrounding Lake Bohinj. Winding paths and dizzying terrain isolate it from other Slovenian cities. Ukanc (Slovenian) is a village not far from the shore of Lake Bohinj, and its name roughly translates to "the end of the world."
Crossing the riverbank from the church, there is a slender, black bronze deer sculpture, believed to guard the mountain ridges by the lake. In the afterglow of the sunset, it looks lifelike.
There is a bay of the lake, located at the end of the world
It has a beautiful name: Lake Bohinj
Remote and serene, drifting outside the alternation of seasons, imperceptible to the passage of time
