Trang An memorable boat trip
A memorable boat trip - slowly mandearing in between limestone hill. The place was so green that even the water is emerald green (maybe from the seaweed grew underneath) Visited underground caves and ancient temples. Buy ticket at the complex across the waterways and walk underground to the docking boats. 3 trail routes to choose from and best time to visit - early morning or late afternoon when it is not too hot as the whole trip takes 2.5 to 3 hour.

Vietnam's World Heritage Site: Dinh Tien Hoang Shrine
I went to Dinh Tien Hoang Pagoda, a World Heritage Site in Ninh Binh Province, about a two-hour drive from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
It is located on the site of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, which gained independence from China over 1,000 years ago, and is said to enshrine the first and second kings.
There was a painting at the entrance that depicted what it looked like at the time.
The grounds of the first and second buildings are similar in design, but the second building is simpler. Only the first building had a guardian beast (?) that looked like a mix of a dragon and a horse.
The grounds have a small pond and are surrounded by rice fields, creating a peaceful atmosphere. There seems to be a bicycle rental shop nearby, and I saw people getting around on bicycles.

2-hour bamboo boat cruise with scenic views
A famous attraction, Trang An. Known as “Halong Bay on land”. Local women get to row the boat once every 3 days to earn US$10 to feed their families. It would be nice if the rower can communicate simple English so that she can identify the specific attraction to take note of (eg. King Kong movie location spot). Otherwise, it was relaxing to enjoy the cruise, chatting with your fellow boat travelers (up to 4 pax) and going through a few limestone caves. There was also small paddles onboard for us to try some rowing too. #2023TravelWish #ninhbinh

Incredible Trang An Boat Tour
#2023travelwish
The best landscapes I have ever seen in the country!
You can take that relaxing boat tour along the huge mountain formations and through the underground river in 2 hours or more (depending on your chosen route). The most exciting part is bending over to avoid the low-hanging karsts. A bonus feature is passing by the famous Kong Skull Island movie location.
This reminds me of the ones in Palawan. So my #2023travelwish is to visit the same scenery in my own country and tag my parents along. Hopeful and wishing 😌

Many tourists go there but there is still a large amoint of untouched nature

✨It was love at first sight! I fell in love with this place the first time I stayed here. This is my second time and it never disappoints.
🔆The beautiful cliffs that seem to create a backdrop of the swimming pool are truly the scene-stealers of this resort. When you get inside the rooms, you’ll be amazed even more to find out that the same cliffs you see outside also serve as walls of the rooms.

|Vietnam|Ninh Binh Hoa Kaew Ancient Capital-Explore the historical relics of Vietnam's first unified dynasty
If Ninh Binh is the "Halong Bay on land" of Vietnam, then Hoa Kaew is the heart of history. It was once the capital of the Dinh Dynasty and the former Le Dynasty of Vietnam, and has a history of more than 1,000 years. Stepping into the ancient capital of Hoa Kaew is not only about walking through the quaint palace ruins, but also entering the memory of the beginning of the Vietnamese nation.
🏯 Highlights of attractions:
Dinh Tien Emperor's Shrine: It enshrines the first unified king of Vietnam, Dinh Bu Ling. It has a solemn building and exquisite carvings, and is a representative of appreciating traditional Vietnamese architecture.
Le Daxing Emperor's Shrine: In memory of Emperor Le Taizu, there are a large number of wood carvings and ancient steles in the shrine, which is full of Confucian cultural atmosphere.
Ancient capital ruins: Surrounded by mountains, it is like a natural barrier, giving people a glimpse of the ingenuity of the dynasty's site selection thousands of years ago.
✨Reminder:
It is recommended to wear more conservative clothing to visit the temple area
🧭 Transportation information:
Hoa Kok Ancient Capital is located about 10 kilometers west of Ninh Binh City, Ninh Binh Province. You can take a chartered car or a one-day tour group from Hanoi. Most tour groups will plan Hoa Kok Ancient Capital, Chang'an Ecological Reserve, and Tam Coc Boating as a one-day itinerary, which is very convenient.

🏞️ Hoa Lu Ancient Capital – Where Vietnam’s Royal Legacy Began
Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Ninh Binh province, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital offers a fascinating window into Vietnam’s early imperial history. As our guide explained, Hoa Lu was the political and economic center of northern Vietnam long before Hanoi took the spotlight.
Strategically located on a plain surrounded by towering limestone mountains and fronted by a river, it’s easy to see why this site was chosen—natural defenses at their finest. The setting alone makes for a breathtaking visit.
Within the compound are a few ancient temples, believed to be dedicated to the early Vietnamese kings of the Dinh and Le dynasties. The traditional architecture, stone-carved details, and atmospheric courtyards all speak of a bygone era.
It’s not a very large site—we spent roughly an hour walking through the different structures, listening to stories from our guide and taking in the serene surroundings. While it may not be as grand as some of Vietnam’s later capitals, the cultural and historical significance of Hoa Lu makes it well worth a stop, especially for those interested in Vietnamese heritage and early dynastic history.
⸻
💬 Final Verdict:
A quiet yet culturally rich destination that blends history, architecture, and nature beautifully. Great for a peaceful walk, some thoughtful reflection, and a taste of ancient Vietnam.

Boats, Caves & Chill Vibes
#springitinerary Tràng An Landscape Complex in spring is an absolute dream. Picture this: you're gliding through calm, emerald-green rivers on a little wooden boat, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, misty mountains, and lush greenery everywhere. The weather? Cool, breezy, and just right for soaking it all in without breaking a sweat.
The boat ride takes you through dark caves (some super long and low-key spooky in the best way) and past peaceful temples tucked into the cliffs. It’s quiet, super scenic, and feels like you’ve drifted into some kind of fantasy movie set. Spring adds extra charm with flowers blooming along the riverbanks and fewer tourists crowding the view.
Whether you're into nature, a little adventure, or just want a break from the city noise, Tràng An delivers. Bring your camera, sit back, and enjoy the ride, this place is straight-up magic in spring.

Ninh Binh Trang An 1 day comprehensive itinerary
📍Address: Trang An (Di Sản Tràng An) => if you search on google map, I recommend searching for the phrase in the bracket. About 2 hour drive from Hanoi. Car parking fee applied at the area (but I don't remember the price... sorry 🥲)
💰Entrance/Boat tour price: 150,000vnd (about £14-15 depends on the currency exchange rate). This will cover you to choose 1 from 4 boat routes.
✨️Suggested boat route:
Depends on your purpose, route 1 is more of a culture route. it is the longest route and takes you through many temples and caves. You will also have a chance to get off the boat to climb abit through the mountains (not all to the top) to reach an old temple.
Route 3 and 4 are shorter but more for nice photos and Instagram post. I went for route 1 this time, it's a nice route for culture explore (but of course I didn't get chance to take the iconic Instagram photo)
I haven't tried route 2 yet... If you have please comment 😊
🏖️Time to go: I went around March, which is the off-peak time for holiday. The weather is nice, and I went in in the morning so it's not too sunny. The weather is cool with nice breeze.
📍Adjacent area that worth visiting: Hoa Lu old town and if you still have time then try Tam Coc Bich Dong
📸Photo spots: anywhere along the boat tour route, the sceneries are stunning
🍴Food to try:
Duc De Restaurant (there are 2 branches in Ninh Binh) => suitable for family meal lunch or dinner. Recommend to try their steam goat meat and scorched rice with special soup (I dont think they have English menu but we can all use google translate :v)
Mien Luon ba Phan (Miến Lươn bà Phấn): I recommend try the phrase in bracket for correct location on google map. breakfast restaurant but open kinna all day from 5am to 8pm. only has 3 options of eel glass noodle, eel eggnoodle or eel porridge, all are delicious, I prefer eel porridge. regular bowl is 60,000vnd (about £1.75) and large bowl is 80,000 (about £2.5)
We went for a day trip so I couldn't recommend accommodation

🏷 Trang An Eco Holiday Retreat
📍 Ninh Binh, Vietnam
🗺️ Ttukbokki's Ninh Binh accommodation story
Trang An Eco Holiday Retreat is exactly like being in the middle of nature. The surroundings are really quiet, and surrounded by green mountains and fields, so you feel comfortable throughout your stay. Just like the name of the accommodation, it is a space that thinks of nature, and even the bamboo beds in the rooms are full of an eco-friendly feel! There is also a swimming pool where you can leisurely swim in nature, and it is a great place to get away from your busy daily life and really rest.
🛵 Location and transportation: It is slightly away from the center of Ninh Binh, so it is quieter and more peaceful. It is not very inconvenient to travel by motorbike or car.
🛌🏻 Room condition: The bamboo furniture really brings out the natural feeling. It is clean and has a good atmosphere, and the beds are comfortable, so you can sleep well.
🫶🏻 This is what I liked!: A swimming pool in nature! It feels like my body and mind are both relaxed because I swim in a cool and quiet atmosphere.
🍚 Nearby food: The breakfast provided by the accommodation is simple but full of sincerity and tastes good. Since the surrounding area is quiet, it may be convenient to eat at the accommodation.
🎸 Other notes: Highly recommended for those who like nature or want a healing trip! Those who want to walk leisurely, rest, and think will be completely satisfied.
💳 Price range: The price is quite reasonable for an accommodation in nature. It is rare to be able to enjoy this atmosphere at this price.
If you want to stop for a while in Ninh Binh, I highly recommend Trang An Eco Holiday Retreat. After resting in nature, you will have the strength to travel again 🌿

[Vietnam] Cycling in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu
I visited the ancient capital of Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh, Vietnam!
There were many people taking photos wearing ao dai,
and as rumored, there was a spot where you could ride a water buffalo (for just a tip of 10,000 Vietnamese dong!),
and there were many photogenic spots 📷🖼️
I accompanied a Japanese tour and also went cycling 🚲
It was a place rich in nature but with no bugs, and the weather in March was just the right temperature, so cycling was very pleasant!
