Located on the slopes of Xiaoshi Mountain southeast of Jincheng City, Qinglian Temple, the same filming location as Black Myth: Wukong, was our fourth stop of the day. The temple complex, divided into upper and lower sections, stands against the mountain, with the clear Danshui River flowing below. Its halls and pavilions are nestled among the lush greenery, and the surrounding mountains resemble lotus flowers emerging from the water, commanding a breathtaking view. It is one of the earliest temples of the Maitreya Pure Land Sect of Buddhism in China and is renowned as the "scholarly Qinglian, martial Shaolin." The six Tang Dynasty painted sculptures in the Maitreya Hall of the lower temple are unparalleled and unique. The four "Corner Gods" in the Sutra Repository of the upper temple are the only ones in the country and are jokingly called the "hardest workers" of Qinglian Temple. But the Corner Gods are not just chosen laborers; they are the pillars of Qinglian Temple, bearing the weight of the thousand-year-old temple through the storms of time. The Tang sculptures of Qinglian Temple are precious, and the Song Dynasty statues of the Eighteen Arhats in the Sakyamuni Hall of the lower temple and the Arhat Hall of the upper temple are equally exquisite. The main hall is the only remaining Northern Song Dynasty wooden structure in the temple. Although small in size, the building uses massive timbers. The roof is a nine-ridge hip-and-gable style, with eaves that sweep upwards like wings. Under the eaves are huge Dougong brackets, and twelve stone pillars surround the perimeter. However, even more precious than the architecture itself is the Song Dynasty "Celestial Palace" inside the hall. A pinnacle of Northern Song small wooden craftsmanship, it is exceptionally exquisite. Two female deities are enshrined in the center of the shrine, flanked by attendants, weaving women, and other female officials. It's a great representation of Shanxi's traditional residences, though it doesn't have the fame of places like Pingyao. I even spotted a few unique cave dwellings, adding to the town's charm. The town wasn't crowded with tourists or commercial activities. Many houses were uninhabited, reflecting a common trend in many ancient towns. While the peaceful atmosphere was pleasant, a bit more commercial activity could help attract visitors and maintain the buildings. I also enjoyed a delicious bowl of noodles at a nearby restaurant. It was my first time trying noodles with fresh leek, which added a unique flavor. This local specialty was quite different from what I'd experienced in the south. Overall, Daiyang Ancient Town left a lasting impression with its rich history and unique atmosphere.

The Guandi Temple in the city is not small, but the reason it is a national treasure is not its size, but the large number of exquisite wood carvings and stone carvings from the Qing Dynasty that have been preserved. The four stone pillars in front of the Guansheng Hall are four flying dragons, which are very imposing. Qinglian Temple was originally called Xiashi Temple, and was named after the Shakyamuni Buddha sitting on a lotus seat in the temple. There is a saying that goes, "Qinglian for literature, Shaolin for martial arts." Qinglian Temple is divided into two parts: the Upper Temple and the Lower Temple, which belong to the Pure Land and Tiantai sects respectively. There is a 1,400-year-old ginkgo tree in the Upper Temple, and late October is the best time to enjoy the ginkgo leaves. According to the staff, the fallen leaves will not be swept away, and the ancient temple is covered with golden leaves in late autumn, which is very beautiful. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see it this time. The Lower Temple has a Ming Dynasty stupa, which is a landmark building of the temple and is also known as the "Shadowless Pagoda." The Shakyamuni Hall in the south of the Lower Temple also houses 11 Song Dynasty painted sculptures. We were lucky to see them (we were told that it was not open, but today there was a museum taking photos) and we were able to catch a glimpse of the Song Dynasty sculptures that were not destroyed by destructive restoration. The Sutra Pavilion of the Upper Temple has four "corner gods" that have been supporting the beams for thousands of years, which are the only ones in the country. For hundreds of years, the most praised feature of the Sanjiao Temple is its exquisite and complex wood carvings. In traditional concepts, caisson ceilings are a symbol of sacred meaning and can only be used in religious or royal buildings. The treasure flower shape is painted with a Bagua diagram, and the dragon-shaped wood carvings on the central pillar have clearly visible dragon scales, a complicated decorative technique in Chinese wooden architecture. [Zezhou Dai Temple] is also known as Yedi Dai Temple, located in Yedi Village, Nancun Town, Zezhou County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. The date of its establishment is unknown, but according to the inscription on the stone pillar, the latest construction date can be traced back to the Song Dynasty. The ancient ginkgo tree at the entrance of the courtyard is unusually thick and is one of the most precious trees in Jincheng, comparable to the ginkgo tree in Tanzhe Temple in Beijing. This ginkgo tree is a single tree that bears fruit, and a branch grows downward beside the trunk, making it look like a "hermaphrodite," which is amazing! (We came late, and all the ginkgo leaves had fallen.) Unlike the common stone lion statues, the stone lions at the entrance have all had their front legs cut off, so the locals call them the "Venus lions" with broken arms. Without the front legs, the whole thing becomes a beautiful arc shape, with a dynamic momentum of leaping into the air.

| See a 6,000-year-old ginkgo tree. Zezhou Dai Temple, commonly known as Xidamiao, is located in Yedi Village, Nancun Town, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province. It is the only Dai Temple and Taoist Quanzhen Temple outside of Mount Tai. Next to Zezhou Dai Temple stands a ginkgo tree, one of the attractions here. According to experts, the tree is at least 6,000 years old, making it one of the top ten largest trees in Jincheng and unique in China. In front of the Dai Temple, the tree's crown spreads out like a giant umbrella. Originally, the tree had eight branches, but six were cut down in the early days of liberation to make desks and benches for the village school, leaving only two branches. Wanzi City was built by troops led by General Guo Ziyi of the Tang Dynasty. It was the garrison for troops guarding Tianjing Pass in all dynasties. It controlled the key points of Ze (Zezhou Prefecture, now Jincheng, Shanxi) and Huai (Huaiqing Prefecture, now Qinyang, Henan) and was surrounded by narrow and winding roads. The city wall was built against the cliff and is not large in scale. The name comes from this castle-like building, which is made of bluestone and is in the shape of a "round bowl". "It is shaped like a bowl, so it is called Wanzi City." Wanzicheng, as part of the ancient Yangchang Slope Road, is a controversial place. The temple is named after the seated statue of Sakyamuni on a lotus seat. The ancient temple was built during the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty and is also known as the Lower Qinglian Temple. The new temple was built in the second year of the Dahe period of the Tang Dynasty and is also known as the Upper Qinglian Temple, as it is located at a higher elevation. One of the most amazing sights in Qinglian Temple is the ancient cypress tree, which is said to have withered over a hundred years ago. The abbot of the temple decided to cut it down the next day. That night, a young cypress tree climbed up the trunk of the mother tree and wrapped itself around it tightly. The monks saw this and believed it to be a divine sign. Qinglian Temple also preserves a large number of stone inscriptions, including ten inscriptions from the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with a variety of calligraphy styles, including regular script, cursive script, clerical script, and seal script, which are breathtaking to visitors.

The stone stele of the "Luohan Stele Inscription" in the middle of the back wall of the Guanyin Pavilion records the names of sixteen Arhats and five hundred Arhats, with the five hundred Arhats being the earliest recorded.
