Thousand Buddha Mountain in Jinan, formerly known as Lishan, is one of the three major scenic spots in the city. Legend has it that Emperor Shun once farmed here, hence its other name, Shungeng Mountain (Shun Farming Mountain). Numerous Buddhist statues were carved into the cliffs during the Sui Dynasty, giving the mountain its name. Climbing the steps, one is surrounded by lush forests. Halfway up the mountain, the red walls of Xingguo Temple are hidden among verdant cypress trees. The evening drum and morning bell evoke a profound sense of Zen. The Thousand Buddha Cliff preserves precious Sui Dynasty sculptures. Nearby, the Lishan Temple houses the Shun Shrine, continuing the ancient Shun farming tradition. Reaching the summit, one can overlook the entire city of Jinan, with its continuous buildings and distant mountains appearing like dark eyebrows. Spring brings blooming flowers, and autumn paints the forests with vibrant colors. Though not high, the mountain holds a thousand years of Buddhist charm and cultural stories, making it a must-visit destination for Jinan locals seeking relaxation and for tourists to appreciate the city's history.
