Things to do in Jinan

The main attraction was the "since we were already here, let's take a look." In August, during the high-water season, the three springs were gushing water, somewhat like a tap spraying water upwards into a pool. It wasn't quite what I imagined Baotu Spring to be like; the water flow was likely even lower at other times. However, the other springs in the scenic area were unexpectedly stunning. The water was incredibly clear, and the fish seemed to be floating in mid-air. Bubbles, like pearls, would occasionally rise from the springs. There was also a spot where you could wade in the water, but unfortunately, I wasn't wearing sandals. The water was incredibly refreshing, a real treat in the sweltering heat.

Daming Lake, with its rippling blue waters, swaying willows, and the majestic Chaoran Tower, is especially dazzling at night. Strolling along the lakeside, one is enveloped in the fragrance of lotus blossoms. Ancient pavilions and waterside terraces are scattered in a pleasing manner, showcasing the charm of Jinan, the "City of Springs," making it a poetic place not to be missed.

The greatest reward of this trip was finally seeing the "Number One Spring Under Heaven" from my textbooks. As a child, I was familiar with Lao She's article, "If it weren't for this spring, Jinan would lose half its beauty," but I used to think it was just literary embellishment. Seeing it with my own eyes, I realized its true meaning. The textbook description of "blowing ceaselessly, day and night, all year round" finally came to life. In the clear spring pool, three main springs gush forth day and night, lively and powerful. The water was crystal clear, with swaying aquatic plants and playful fish—a vibrant and healing sight. The scene from my childhood textbooks became reality, and I finally understood the thousand-year-old charm of Baotu Spring.

One of Jinan's three major scenic spots, located within the city limits, this mountain isn't very high, but is lined with lush trees and famous temples and ancient monasteries. Climbing to the top offers a panoramic view of the entire city of Jinan. The mountain is covered with maple and ash trees, and it must be incredibly beautiful when the leaves turn red.

Because of Li Qingzhao, the unbridled existence of this spring becomes even more captivating. The garden is beautiful, with the spring water babbling merrily. The former residence of this great poet is nestled deep within its grounds. In this place steeped in cultural heritage, what could be more delightful than sipping a drink and discussing poetry? Whether at sunset or sunrise, listening to the spring and savoring tea is always a wonderful experience.

The free spring water at Wulongtan gave me a great experience. It was truly a taste of the spring water that the people of Jinan drink. I felt they were very fortunate. I also felt the fish in the water were very happy.

It's really great, especially the parade and fireworks show; definitely worth going. The only downside is that many rides require a height of 1.4 meters or more, so kids who aren't tall enough can't participate.

Qushuiting Street has the beauty of a Jiangnan water town, while also having the characteristics of the North. Walking in the rainy alley of Qushuiting with an umbrella, watching the rain fall on the flowing water and the bridge reflecting the mist, the poetry of the ancient street is all in this rain.

There's a parking lot right outside, making it very convenient by car. The room is in a modern Chinese style, clean and tidy, with no strange smells. The bed was quite comfortable, not too soft or too firm. The bathroom has a separate shower and toilet, and the smart toilet was easy to use. The toiletries had a pleasant, subtle woody scent. There were also peacocks to play with on the basement level. The receptionist, dressed in traditional Chinese clothing, spoke softly and gently, and check-in was quick. Xiao Li even recommended some good restaurants nearby. Breakfast was a Shandong specialty, with free refills. The sweet millet porridge and braised pork were quite local specialties, although the variety wasn't huge, but the food was exquisite and clean. Overall, I had a very comfortable stay and would consider staying here again next time I'm in Jinan.

Lingyan Temple is located in Wandezhen, Changqing District, Jinan, at the northwest foot of Mount Tai, about an hour's drive from downtown Jinan. It can be visited along the way to Mount Tai. Founded in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the ancient temple has a history of 1,600 years and is considered one of the four most famous temples in China, enjoying great popularity during the Tang and Song Dynasties. Highlights include: the Song Dynasty Arhat sculptures in the Thousand Buddha Hall, considered the finest examples of their kind in China, with lifelike expressions; the ancient and grand nine-story Pizhi Pagoda; a large forest of pagodas containing over a hundred stone pagodas from various dynasties; and a tranquil environment with clear mountain springs and ancient cypress trees, where historical sites blend seamlessly with the natural landscape. A visit is highly recommended for those who appreciate historical temples.
