Fenghuang Ancient Town has always been a place I've longed to visit, my affection for it stemming largely from my reverence for the late Mr. Shen Congwen. Years ago, it was *Border Town* that transported my thoughts to the ancient and mysterious land of western Hunan. Today, through a self-guided tour on Ctrip, I've finally arrived in beautiful Fenghuang. The Tuojiang River in the drizzle is shrouded in mist and mystery; the stilted houses tell tales of historical change; and the bustling bars at night shimmer with dazzling lights.
