I used it when traveling to Germany, France, and Switzerland. It seems like you don't need to reserve a seat. I didn't, but I was able to sit down everywhere. This pass saved me about 20,000 yen, so I highly recommend it. Apparently, if you don't activate it before boarding, you'll be fined.

So Eurail Pass is very easy to use in Austria, saving expensive transportation costs, especially the high-speed trains to and from Vienna and Salzburg, and the transportation costs of the most beautiful town in Hatsutat.
