It's very convenient; you don't have to mess around with swapping SIM cards, or even switching anything. We visited Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, and everything worked without a hitch. We connected through the Trip app, without scanning a QR code. It worked for my husband and me (I have an iPhone, he has a Samsung). Be sure to enable "Data Roaming" in the settings.

ESIM activation and usage time begin after the first connection to the network. You can download and install the profile at home, activate it upon arrival, and everything is fine. The only non-obvious feature is that the ESIM is always roaming, so you need to enable data roaming in your smartphone settings. In Bangkok, Koh Samui, and Phuket, I mostly had 5G, sometimes dropping to 4G. The internet speed is sufficient, and voice calls work.


