I've bought e-SIMs from TripAdvisor many times, and this is the first time I've encountered a requirement to activate a number first. Previously, I could just install it and activate roaming directly. Customer service responded very quickly, almost instantly, and I successfully activated it following their instructions. Next time, if I buy one and can't use it immediately after installation, I'll check two things: if I see "eSIM," I'll activate roaming; if I don't see "eSIM," I'll add and activate a number.
