Lightning Lake Jingbei Wetland Grassland is located in Guyuan County. Lightning Lake is the largest lake in the upper reaches of the Luan River, named after the Lightning River that flows into it. Kulun Nur Tourist Resort
Kulun Nur Tourist Resort (formerly Guyuan Swan Lake Attraction) is a 4A-level Attraction located in the Hulu River Wetland Park, 3 kilometers north of Guyuan County, Hebei Province. Kulun Nur Attraction is affiliated to Guyuan County Blue Whale Tourism Development Co., Ltd. The Attraction covers an area of 32 square kilometers, including 9.6 square kilometers of lake surface. It is 1,375 meters above sea level and is a natural plateau freshwater lake. This is a bird's paradise. Dozens of rare birds live and feed by the lake alternately with the change of seasons; the high-quality lake water has created rich fishery resources. Luanhe River Scenic Spot is located 20 km northeast of the county town, situated in the core area of Hebei Bashang Lightning River National Wetland Park, renowned as a "Characteristic Tourism Wetland of China." Developed and constructed by the county government in April 2012, it adheres to the principles of rational wetland utilization and protection, integrating ecological sightseeing, science education, and leisure vacation into a comprehensive wetland ecological experience zone. The attraction boasts over 85% vegetation coverage, with infrastructure built around "Zhuanfo Mountain." From the summit, visitors can admire the breathtaking river bends resembling lightning flashes on a rainy night or silvery snakes winding through nine twists - known as "Lightning River." This ancient waterway, originally called Rushui during the Tang Dynasty before being renamed Luan River (later written as Luanhe), serves as the source of northern China's mighty Luanhe River that still flows today. I stopped here on the way back from Ulan Butong. If you're coming specifically for this, it's not worth it.
I recommend entering the scenic area around dusk to experience the breathtaking view of the stone carvings: "The sunset glows and wild geese fly together, the autumn waters blend seamlessly with the sky."

The scenic area is really huge!! The shuttle bus only goes around the east side and doesn't reach the castle. The rides inside are very cheap; archery is only 2 yuan per arrow, and the owner might even tip you with a bottle of mineral water if he's in a good mood ˶>ᗜ<˶. The scenery is absolutely amazing. If you want to go to the castle for photos from the park, you can either take a horse-drawn carriage (80 yuan per person if there are many people, 60 yuan per person if there are few people) or rent a shared electric scooter (30 yuan for the first half hour, and 1 yuan per minute after that). But at the end, you have to cross a sky bridge and then either take a car or a cable car, which is quite troublesome. We didn't go, leaving a small regret for next time~

The scenery is particularly great. I caught up with the most beautiful time of the Colorful Forest. Off-road is also highly recommended. When playing the package project, the order was messed up. The staff arranged to take the sightseeing bus again for free, which is very humane.

If you're traveling with elderly people, you need to consider their physical condition. Walking the whole way can be tiring for those who aren't physically fit. There aren't many decent restaurants inside, and the food at the restaurants is just so-so, plus the prices are relatively high.

I've booked the tour that started at 10am but I was there early and they put me with the earlier group and it's great that I didn't have to spend my time waiting. Before I was there I've read that one of the main building was under construction and was very disappointed. Though it's my fifth visit, you will still want to see it in its full glory and not to be greeted by a scaffolding building. However once I've passed that, it didn't really bother me as much as I've thought it would be. Our guide was Lily. She is very passionate, responsible and answer all questions. There's time for photos and a toilet break. After the tour with Lily ended, I made my way to the Treasure Hall. It's worth a visit where you see more of these grand architecture.
