Albert Memorial Clock

Many large and medium-sized cities in the UK prefer clock tower buildings, and Belfast is no exception. The Albert Memorial Clock Tower, located in the city center, was built to commemorate Prince Albert who died in 1861. For more than a hundred years, it has been overlooking both sides of Belfast in the baptism of war and has become a classic landmark of the city.

Although not as famous as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the reason why the clock tower arouses people's interest is also because of its slightly tilted architectural structure. This is not a regret of the designers and construction workers, but due to the inevitable ground subsidence in this coastal city.

Like many buildings in Belfast, the clock tower was built on wooden piles sunk into the mud. Now Belfast people are trying hard to correct the tilt of the clock tower, and the construction work that requires a lot of manpower is inevitable.
