"As of July 11th, the hotel was undergoing renovations, so I couldn't use the breakfast service. They offered a bento box instead, but apparently, you need to request it at least 2 days in advance. Like most Japanese hotels, the room was small, and it was hard to move around once I opened my large suitcase. There were hairs in the bathtub, which made me deduct two stars for cleanliness. The staff were all friendly, but I was aware there was a welcome drink, and they didn't offer it to me. On the first-floor lobby, there are free amenities and a drink vending machine. The location is absolutely fantastic. However, the soundproofing isn't great. If you talk a little loudly, you can hear everything."

"Although the accommodation wasn't a new building, it was clean and nice, perhaps because it was well-maintained. It was close to the Okaido Shopping Street, making it easy to enjoy the many things there. Matsuyama Castle was also within walking distance. I think it took about 10 minutes (it felt too short, considering I took morning and evening walks). Breakfast didn't offer a huge selection, but it was filled with delicious dishes, including mackerel, jakoten, and a daily changing selection of meats. I was surprised by how sweet the paprika in the salad was (I still laugh thinking about it). I don't like salad, but I kept eating the paprika (it was by far the best paprika I've ever had). The location was also less than a five-minute walk from the tram stop. If I had to point out a downside, it would be that, like most accommodations in Japan, it felt cramped and there were quite a few bars and restaurants nearby that were open late at night. Other than that, it was very pleasant."

"We went on a family trip. It was my first time at an onsen ryokan (hot spring inn) and my first time in a tatami room, and it was quite spacious and comfortable. Of course, it was an old building with traditional tatami rooms, so there were some shortcomings, but even these were all worth it. Our family was able to fully experience the Japanese atmosphere, which made it even better. The friendly and detailed guidance from check-in was wonderful. At check-out, we needed to reserve a taxi, and when I couldn't get through to the driver, they connected for me, and helped me make the reservation. The facilities were varied, so it was a great experience with the kids! Thank you!"

"We stayed as a family of three, including an elementary school-aged child. We paid the child's rate, but there were no amenities for the children and they had to sleep in the same bed as us, which was quite difficult with an older child. We didn't need amenities for everyone, but I would have liked at least towels for everyone. The room and bathroom were spacious, clean, luxurious, and comfortable."

"Location is a short walk from Dogo onsen station. The experience was amazing, rooms were huge and I was surprised to have a staff member show us around the room and explain the amenities available. The amount of hospitality is above and beyond any we've experienced at other places and ryokans. They also have a very beautiful outdoor garden, onsen and geta (traditional Japanese wooden shoes) and yukata to wear around the premises."

This hotel is right next to the coffee shop on the left side when you exit Matsuyama-shi Station tram stop. If you're coming from Matsuyama Port, you can take the tram from Takahama Station directly to the hotel. The facilities are quite new as it just recently opened. Every afternoon, guests can enjoy complimentary welcome drinks, and there's free ice cream in the evenings, which is a great draw. The hotel's location is excellent for getting around; Matsuyama-shi Station, which has many buses to Shikoku, Tokyo, Osaka, and Okayama, is right downstairs.

Excellent! The location is fantastic, right on Ookaido Street, meaning you can shop comfortably protected from both sun and rain. The onsen (hot spring bath) on the upper floor was exceptionally clean and delightful. They also offer free laundry washing, with drying available for 100 yen. Step right outside, and you'll find the tram station and a bustling food street. Virtually all of Matsuyama's highly recommended restaurants are within easy walking distance. Cannot recommend enough!

This is a very old, long-established hotel. The prices are affordable, and the staff provides excellent service. The dinner buffet offers a wide variety of choices, and the grilled meats in the buffet line are incredibly delicious – tender and not at all *****. There are several onsen (hot springs) to choose from, but the bathing areas are outside the building, so it can be a bit chilly. The hotel also has a museum and library, adding to its charming atmosphere. There's even live piano music in the evening, which is fantastic.

The JR Clement Inn is next door to the train station which is very nice if you're in town due to the Shimanami Kaido trail. Given the price point of the hotel, it delivers. They offered free drinks in the evening, including sake, and while we did not have their breakfast buffet, it appeared to be very good. Rooms were clean and spacious and location is very tough to beat.

They treat Western guests with far more enthusiasm. When checking in alongside Western guests, the front desk staff only escorted them to their floor, completely ignoring Asian guests like me. It's 2026, and this kind of preferential treatment for Westerners is so out of touch and frankly, a bit embarrassing. On top of that, the duvet cover was torn. Is the hotel really struggling that much? 😓 I'm staying here for three nights purely because I can't be bothered to switch hotels. Matsuyama Castle is quite nice, though. As an established hotel in Matsuyama, I'd hope for a bit more class and professionalism. Also, the room is a bit cramped; it's difficult to open a 30-inch suitcase.

Staying in Comfort Hotel Matsuyama was one of the best experiences I had for my trip in Shikoku. Here are what I like about it: 1. Spacious room and new facilities (the hotel smells good as well haha) 2. Excellent location with nearby tram & train stations and 7-11 stores. 3. Great breakfast & friendly staffs. I will definitely stay here again if I ever come back to Matsuyama.
