How do Russians Negotiate | Free Peoples of Russia House

Jun 20, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Conferences
Drawing on decades of diplomatic experience and deep analysis of Russian strategic culture, Dr. Donald N. Jensen explores how the Kremlin views negotiations not as a path to compromise, but as a form of warfare by other means—shaped by historical resentment, intelligence-driven tactics, and a calculated use of manipulation, legalism, and deception at the negotiating table. This panel offers an essential guide to understanding and countering Russia’s unique negotiating playbook.  Dr. Donald N. Jensen is an expert in Russian foreign policy and negotiating behavior. A former U.S. diplomat, he supported strategic arms negotiations with the USSR, including the START, INF, and SDI talks, and was a member of the first U.S. inspection team to verify Soviet missile dismantlement under the INF Treaty. He also served at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow during the 1991 August Coup. Jensen has written extensively on Russian domestic and foreign policy, with a special focus on negotiation strategies and national security. He teaches at Johns Hopkins University and has lectured at Harvard, Oxford, and George Washington University. He holds a PhD and MA from Harvard and a BA from Columbia, and is fluent in Russian and Italian.  https://www.freerussia.house/ Information Source: eventbrite

Guided Tour of the National Academy of Sciences Building | National Academy of Sciences

Jun 20, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
Cultural Experiences
Tour the "nation's home of science in America." Take a one-hour guided tour of the beautiful National Academy of Sciences building at 2100 C St., NW, Washington, D.C. Dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge in April 1924 and designed by architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, the building’s architecture is a unique fusion of classical elements and “irregular” forms, and celebrates the history and significance of science. On this tour, admire rich Hellenic, Byzantine, and Egyptian architectural influences and touches of Art Deco. Explore the Great Hall with iconography by Hildreth Meière and other ceremonial rooms with architectural sculpture by Lee Lawrie and murals by Albert Herter. You’ll also peek inside the acoustically brilliant Fred Kavli Auditorium, part of the 1970 wing. Enjoy artwork and exhibitions exploring intersections of art, science, and culture. This tour is organized by the Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences (CPNAS). CPNAS sponsors exhibitions, salons, theatrical readings, and other events that explore relationships among the arts and sciences. The NAS is a private, nonprofit institution that recognizes achievement in science by election to membership, and — with the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine — provides science, technology, and health policy advice to the federal government and other organizations. Learn more about the exhibitions on view at www.cpnas.org . Read the full visitor code of conduct guidelines here. Questions? Email us at cpnas@nas.edu. Celebration
We are excited to invite you to the Plente All-Pastel Day Soiree , an elegant summer gathering hosted by Plente Group . With afrobeats, small chops, and an open bar of prosecco, spritzers and more. The vibe will be elevated and unforgettable. This is more than a party — it’s a birthday celebration for our founder and host Noble Madu, a charity fundraiser and a chance to align ideas, resources, and relationships with a distinguished group of entrepreneurs, executives, advisors, and visionaries of the culture and for a good cause. We'd love for us to show up in full force, dressed in our finest pastels, to make the most of this unique gathering. 10% of ticket revenue will go towards educational scholarships for students in DC.
