Gurjeet Singh: When Words Hurt | Asian Art Museum
Apr 3, 2025–May 31, 2026 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
Chandigarh-based artist Gurjeet Singh’s first show at an American institution offers a moving consideration of the emotional impact of words. Teary Eyes is a soft sculpture stitched together from pieces of dress fabric. Despite a playful, colorful surface, the work conveys a deep vulnerability; this feeling grows deeper as we witness a violent exchange of words in the painting Prickly Words. Portraits of Singh with the figure further personalize the exhibition.
“These works explore what it means to be seen, to express yourself, and the power of language to build us up and tear us down,” says exhibition curator Padma Dorje Maitland, Malavalli Family Foundation Associate Curator of the Art of the Indian Subcontinent. “Even if we accept ourselves and feel confident, the wrong word at the wrong time can deeply impact us. Whether Sikh, South Asian, Queer, soft, or hard, Singh’s work addresses the complex challenges of fashioning how we appear in the world.”
Vikrant Bhise: Archival Historicity/Dalit Panthers | Asian Art Museum
Apr 3, 2025–May 23, 2026 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
Filled with a revolutionary spirit, Vikrant Bhise’s Archival Historicity series offers a dynamic visual archive of the Dalit Panthers, a group dedicated to seeking freedom from caste, gender, and labor inequities for India’s most oppressed and marginalized peoples. Founded in 1972 in Mumbai and taking inspiration from the Oakland-based Black Panther Party for Self Defense, the Dalit Panthers sought to align themselves with their Bay Area counterparts in a global struggle for equality and social change.
Bhise’s intimate, postcard-sized works are made up of many layers: painted and printed elements from manifestos and pamphlets interact and overlap with newspaper images, urban monuments, and symbolic cartoons. Installed in a continuous sequence spanning a gallery wall, these selections from the ongoing series “evoke the small, localized experiences that add up to global movements, while underscoring the enduring significance of the Panthers’ call for equality,” says Padma Dorje Maitland, Malavalli Family Foundation Associate Curator of the Art of the Indian Subcontinent. This exhibition marks their first showing in a major museum.
Kunié Sugiura: Photopainting | San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
Apr 26–Sep 14, 2025 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
This exhibition is the first US survey of the work of Kunié Sugiura, an artist whose boundary-defying engagement with the photographic medium spans over sixty years. Born in Nagoya, Japan, in 1942, Sugiura came to the United States in 1963 to study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she majored in photography. After graduation, she relocated to New York and has lived there ever since.
Sugiura’s practice embraces a hybrid approach, blending various mediums and expressing her bicultural identity. The balancing of dualisms —Japanese/American, organic/human-made, and painting/photography — defines her work. Sugiura has stated that her cross-fertilization of photography with painting and sculpture partly stems from her desire that photography be taken seriously as an art form.

Tradition and Innovation: Contemporary Korean Ceramics | Asian Art Museum
May 8–Dec 1, 2025 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
Offering a rare chance to see contemporary Korean ceramics from the museum collection, this exhibition highlights clay creations by four prominent 20th-century artists. Their various approaches, each one an heir to its own creative lineage, demonstrate innovations deeply rooted in Korea’s rich legacy of ceramics production.
On one side, the lively surface textures of stoneware and porcelain works by Roe Kyung-Jo (b. 1951), Kim See-man (b.1958), and Yoon Kwang-jo (b. 1946) bring fresh updates to traditional marbling and glazing techniques. Exhibition curator and Assistant Curator for Korean Art Yoon-Jee Choi notes that “buncheong (분청), the central decoration of Kim and Yoon’s vessels, is one of the most innovative techniques of Korean ceramics; the two artists advance this traditional method by exploring a sense of rhythm and spontaneity.”
Directly opposite are three smooth, black pillars of stacked onggi (옹기) — vessels historically used to carry fermented foods such as kimchi — by Cho Chung-Hyun (b. 1940). Standing as tall as people, each of these appealing works seems animated by its own unique personality, conveyed via subtle variations in shape and size.

We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist.

World Record!!! Longest Skating Serpentine | 6th Avenue Skate Park
Jul 19, 2025 (UTC-8)
San Francisco
Come out with the Holy Rollers of the Church of 8 Wheels and the skaters from the Black Rock Roller Disco (Burning Man Theme Camp) as we attempt to break the World Record for the longest skating serpentine. This all takes place at 6th Ave Skatin' Place in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The event will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Registration will open at 9 AM at Skatin' Place at 6th Ave and JFK Promenade. Here you can pick up your bib numbers and/or register for the event. The record attempt will begin at 1PM. After the world record attempt, we will move the skate action to Skatin' Place, 6th Ave. and Kennedy Drive in Golden Gate Park. There will be the San Francisco Skaters’ Showcase at 2PM where roller skaters will show off their skills. There is even a segment where the audience will join in the coolest line dancing skate groove .
According to the official rules, EVERYONE MUST BE REGISTERED FOR THE WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT. The registration fee is $20. Skate rentals are available for $10.
HERE ARE THE RULES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!! There are quite a few guidelines that must be followed in order for our Guinness World Record attempts to be validated. Please read all the info below and be prepared when the time comes to skate. Every participant must be registered for the world record event. Each participant will receive a bib number that must be placed in plain sight on their chest area. The event will be videotaped from many angles and by many media people. The registrations, bib numbers, videotapes and media coverage are all crucial elements in the verification process. The World’s Longest Skating Serpentine is both inline and regular roller skates. A skating serpentine is a long line of skaters that are linked hand to hand. The leader or “head“ of the serpentine moves forward and the chain of skaters follow. The head makes turns to the left and to the right as it moves forward forming a snake-like motion with the chain of skaters. This is the serpentine. The chain must travel at least 400 meters in an unbroken chain.HOLDING ONTO CLOTHING, BACKPACKS OR ANYTHING OTHER THAT THE PERSON'S HAND IN THE CHAIN VOIDS THE RECORD ATTEMPT.IF THE CHAIN BREAKS AT ANY POINT THE ATTEMPT IS VOID. Be aware of the kind of clothing that you wear. We want everyone to be bright and colorful, but we don't want you or others tripping or being interfered with by hats, long coats, scarfs, feather boas or other articles that would cause the record to be voided. You must be a competent skater to participate. No pets are allowed. No dogs on leashes. A competent child skate will be allowed, but if you present a child that is deemed not competent enough to participate, you will be responsibility for the trama that child will suffer from the experience, so don't make us say no to your child because we will if we have to. For more information contact David Miles at 415-752-1967 or e-mail toSk8GodFather@earthlink.net See you in Golden Gate Park!!!

San Francisco Singles Online Trivia Night - A Fun Speed Dating Alternative | San Francisco
Jul 22, 2025 (UTC-7)
San Francisco
** FOR SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA SINGLES **
Get ready for a fun night of trivia on Zoom with other singles in your area! Grab some snacks or even a cocktail and come try out the singles event that's the perfect way to make new social connections. Let's face it, we're all tired of the endless swiping on dating apps and interacting with people who may or may not look like or be like the person they're portraying on the apps. A Singles Trivia Night is a much better way to meet someone because you actually get to interact with people on video (Zoom) before committing to a real life date. This is the safest and best way to meet someone!
WE DO THESE EVENTS EVERY 2 MONTHS OR SO AND WE SLIGHTLY CHANGE UP THE AGE RANGE FOR EACH EVENT. CHECK OUR UPCOMING SCHEDULE BELOW TO SEE THE AGE RANGES FOR EACH EVENT DATE. THE AGE RANGES ARE ONLY SUGGESTED MEANING THAT IF YOU'RE WITHIN A FEW YEARS OF THE AGE RANGE YOU'RE WELCOME TO ATTEND:
***************************************************************
***************************************************************
SCHEDULE:
TUESDAY MAY 27 - SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 30s, 40s & 50s
TUESDAY JULY 22 - SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 20s & 30s
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 16 - SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 30s & 40s
***************************************************************
***************************************************************
HOW THE EVENT WORKS:
Our friendly host will welcome everyone and then you'll be put on a team with other singles from your area. We will have about 3 different cities on at the same time but we make sure to put you on a team with people from your city. You will work with your team to answer fun trivia questions and compete with singles from the other 2 cities in attendance.
In each round you'll go into breakout rooms where you'll get to meet, chat with and come up with your trivia question answers with the other singles in attendance (you're never put on the spot having to come up with an answer on your own... you'll always be able to consult with the group before answering so it's very low pressure, laid back and fun).
At the end of the event you'll be given contact info of the people you'd like to stay in touch with (as platonic friends to hang out with or as potential dating partners).
THIS IS THE PERFECT EVENT TO....
Find that special someone!
Make new friends in your area!
Meet other like minded singles!
Meet some fun wingmen and/or wingwomen!
Meet new activity partners in your area!
Expand your social circle!
Once you sign up, you'll be given a link to join a group of other singles via video on Zoom. All you need is a laptop, phone or tablet to take part in the event. You'll enjoy an evening of fun trivia. We balance the questions making sure there are plenty of different topics and difficulty levels so everyone will have a good time. Our friendly host will be with you live on Zoom orchestrating the most fun trivia event you've ever been to!
STAY IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE YOU MEET!
At the end of the event all of the attendees are invited to put their email address in the chat box to the event host. The event host will then send an email to all attendees containing everyone's email address so you can contact whomever you'd like. If you're not comfortable putting your "every day" email address you can use an alternative email address or you can make another email address to use for the event. Yahoo, Outlook and Gmail allow you create several free email addresses and setting one up takes about 3 minutes. Then after the event you can feel free to email any people you'd like to see again. If people email you it's up to you if you'd like to reply to them.
EVENT DETAILS:
About 85% of people sign up by themself so don't worry if you're coming on alone! Our host will make introductions and put you on a team with other singles from your city! It's a fantastic way to meet new people and we've witnessed countless friendships formed and love connections sparked at this event.
You're never put on the spot to come up with answers... you'll be working with your team to answer the questions. You'll answer great trivia questions in all of your favorite categories like pop culture, history, entertainment (music, movies & TV), arts & literature, science and more. The winning team gets a prize!
* We have several unique rounds of trivia which keeps it really fun and exciting. Some rounds are like traditional trivia nights (simply answering trivia questions), other rounds are totally unique and change at each event. Sometimes we may show you a series of photos and ask you trivia questions about the photos, other times we play games like "Reverse Family Feud" where you'd have to guess the least popular answers to our question (it's soooo much fun!), or sometimes we'll play a "Find The Common Link" game where you'll have to answer some questions and figure out the common link between all the answers like this:
Question #1: A Tomato Based Dip
Question #2: A High Stakes Scenario Might Be Described As Make-Or-What?
Questions #3: The 2005 Film About Johnny Cash Is "Walk The _________"?
Question #4: What German-Austrian Actor's Breakout Role Came In Quentin Tarantino's Film Inglourious Basterds?
Answers: #1: Salsa #2: Break #3: Line #4: Cristoph Waltz
You and your team would have to first answer the questions and then figure out that the common link between the answers is "Dance".
* QUICK NOTE: THERE ARE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT SO SIGN UP ASAP TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A SPOT *

WHY THIS EVENT WORKS!
For many years we organized in person traditional speed dating events. While waiting for everyone to show up, the host would do some trivia questions as icebreakers to "kill time" until everyone arrived. We noticed something fascinating begin to happen. People got to know each other better and made more connections during the trivia than they did during the actual speed dating rounds! The trivia questions sparked so much conversation that we thought, "Wow, we should make an entire event like this!". And that is how our Singles Trivia Night was started!
THESE EVENTS WILL LIKELY SELL OUT BY EVENT TIME AND WE HAVE LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE AT EACH EVENT SO GRAB YOUR TICKET ASAP!
