Calling ALL Poets! The Pen, mightier than the sword, some argue. The Voice, more powerful than a split atom. It is time to use them both. Bangkok Lyrical Lunacy presents: The BANGKOK POETRY SLAM .......................................................................................................... What is a Poetry Slam? Putting a dual emphasis on writing and performance, a Poetry Slam is the modern-day and competitive art of Spoken Word Poetry. In a Poetry Slam, participating poets perform their original works which are then scored by a panel of judges. The judges score on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest) based on the poet's content and performance delivery. The highest and lowest score are dropped and the remaining three are added to give the final score of the poet. What is Spoken Word Poetry? Spoken Word Poetry is a performance focused recital of original poetry. The poetry can cover ANY topic and is open to different styles and techniques. It is a powerful form of creative expression, which gives writers the opportunity, and the outlet, to present their Voice. Who can enter the slam? ANYONE. New poets, old poets, non-poets, amateur poets, professional poets, the poet who wrote their first poem yesterday, and the one who just finished their 10,000th poem. ANYONE. Everyone. .......................................................................................................... EVENT DETAILS: .......................................................................................................... Friday, June 19 at Live Lounge Bkk, Sukhumvit soi 13 Entry: 300THB (For Poets and Spectators) Doors Open at 7PM Slam starts at 8PM Poets must be present and registered by 7:30pm Poets interested in entering the poetry slam please DM or email bangkoklylu@gmail.com. .......................................................................................................... Poetry Slam RULES + FORMAT: .......................................................................................................... Prize: 1,000 THB Cash (No buy-in to compete, but you must pay 300THB cover for entry) No use of props nor costumes is permitted. No music. No crowd participation. A time penalty will be enforced. Only original pieces written and developed by the competing poet are to be performed. There will be 2 Rounds. The First Round will host up to 8 poets. The 5 poets with the highest scores in the 1st round will advance to the Second Round. Judges will be selected from the audience and will score each poet's performance on a scale from 1-10 based on three criteria: Delivery, Writing, and Content. The highest scoring poet in the Second Round is determined the Winner of the Poetry Slam. Each round is clean slate, poets given the highest scores in each round will advance, while the remaining poets will be eliminated. In the event of a tie, the two poets with a tied score will enter a lighting round in which both poets will perform a one minute piece. Each poem must fit within a 3 minute time limit, with a 10 second grace period. After the 10 second grace period the poet's final score will be deducted .5 points for every 10 seconds over the 3 minuets and 10 seconds. ::Example:: 3:11 = -0.5 3:20 = -1.0 3:30= -1.5 3:40 = -2.0 Information Source: Lyrical Lunacy | eventbrite

Family Events
Woodland adventures for home educating families. Join us for a fun-filled time at Shaw Wood! These sessions take place on a Monday every month. Directions will be included in your booking confirmation, please look out for this! The sessions finish at 12:30pm, but you are free to leave earlier if you need to. Please note, there is no toilet in this woodland - wild wee behind a tree is the natural facilities on offer! There will be different things happening at each session, dependant upon the weather, season, and the interests of the group. Please dress for the weather, with several layers and waterproofs. In autumn and winter it can get very chilly in the woods and you will have a far better experience if you are warm and dry. Sturdy footwear is essential for the uneven and often muddy woodland paths. In summer it can still be cool under the dappled shade of the trees and we suggest long sleeves and trousers whatever the weather to help avoid stings and bites. Please bring your own packed lunch. A reminder that adults are responsible for the safety of their children throughout these sessions. We will be there to meet you at the woodland clearing at 10am. Directions and parking information: The entrance to the woodland can be found on the B6013 at Ambergate between Woodside Grove Camping and Caravans and Holly Bank House. Look out for the purple 'Shaw Woods' sign. A great way to navigate here is by using the what3words app with eggplants.scrum.slugs There is limited parking through the metal gate which will be unlocked and open for you to access the area from 9.30am. Please park closely so as we can all fit in. If there is no space left you will find a layby opposite Woodside Grove Camping and Caravans which is just a very short walk away. Once parked walk past the blue barrier and up the short hill until you see our signs on the left. REFUNDS: Please be aware that we are unable to refund tickets with less than 7 days notice. For refunds issued with more than 7 days notice, we are unable to refund the Eventbrite booking fee portion of your tickets. To ensure safety for all participants and leaders, a session can be cancelled or postponed by Woodland Connections at very short notice due to forecast high winds or thunderstorms. If a suitable alternative date is not available, we will refund the full cost of the session. We will advise you if this decision has to be made either the evening before or morning of the session. Please check for emails or texts. Information Source: Woodland Connections | eventbrite
