FUN AT PARTIES is a fast-moving, electric new play which crashes headfirst into Berlin’s legendary nightlife and the outsiders who keep it running. Set against the house and techno beats of the city’s famed club scene, this production explores a city whose international inhabitants live in drug-hazed denial of reality and consequence. Through a kaleidoscopic series of scenes, the play follows the paths of four club workers whilst exploring questions of belonging, burnout, migration, and identity in a city famous for being everyone’s playground - until the lights come up. Featuring a pulsing soundtrack provided by Berlin-based musicians, Fun at Parties is a frenetic portrait of a cultural dream that’s harder to live than it is to sell. BerlinOpen Theatre is an English-language ensemble based in Berlin, Germany, and this production features an all-female cast from the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States, and Serbia. FUN AT PARTIES marks their third theatre production, second upcoming Edinburgh Fringe tour, and first foray into new writing. Our first show on June 29th is a Preview and Audience Feedback Session. For a discounted price, come along to watch our first public-facing performance, and hang around afterwards to hear a cast discussion, provide informal audience feedback, and perhaps get some free drinks and snacks whilst you’re at it! Everyone in the preview audience will also receive a substantial discount code for the following set of performances. Performance Language: Primary language is English, with additional German, Serbian, Russian, French, and Spanish. Performers: Olivia Cole, Anna Ackerman, Natalia Stolyarchuk, Marijana Krstič. www.berlinopentheatre.com Instagram: @berlinopentheatrepage PastReviews A meaningful modern take on a traditional exploration of love, belonging, and moral responsibility, this show will leave you feeling in equal parts spooked and emotional.” EdFringe Review for Frankenstein This is an innovative and thought-provoking production. British Theatre Guide for Frankenstein It was one of the most thematically complex, yet accessible, plays I have ever seen. Audience Member for The House of Bernarda Alba We had no idea what to expect and were blown away by the cast’s absurdly funny but incredibly powerful performance. BLOCK PRINT AND STITCH:A Māya x Keiko ExperienceDiscover the harmony of printing and stitching in this one-of-a-kind workshop, which combines traditional woodblock printing techniques with the art of sashiko stitching.(This workshop is offered in English and German; we have a German/English translator to guide native speakers during the experience, if needed.) A Creative Exploration in Slowcrafs and MindfulmakingThis print and slow stitch experience is more than exploring technique—it’s a thoughtful, hands-on experience created to inspire connection and creative exploration. With this workshop, we will focus on our print thinking philosophy, we know what we love and who we are, and we are living it on purpose. Led by artist and textile researcher Lizane and textile and sashiko artist Keiko, this workshop invites participants into a quiet dialogue between two traditional practices. We will explore the history of Dabu and Bagru woodblock printing and explore block print techniques using eco-friendly inks on fabric. In the afternoon, we will continue working on our prints and develop ideas with Japanese sashiko stitching. Together, we’ll print, stitch, and slow down—transforming cloth into functional art layered with patterns, pigments and prints. Keiko's teachings, as Lizane's sashiko teacher, inspire this special edition in print and sashiko. We want to share this experience as a grounding, meditative tool for creative growth and exploration. It is also inspired by Lizane’s ongoing exploration of eco-friendly inks, natural dyes and earth pigments, used in printing and mark-making. This workshop is a space to explore textures and techniques—but also to reconnect with yourself and your creative voice. Whether you're new to sashiko or printmaking, or seeking new ways to integrate slow craft into your practice, this session offers both structure and freedom, craft and experimentation, facilitated by two expert professionals. At Māya, we conduct textile research, explore print crafts, and modern sustainable design. In research into the slow crafts and eco-crafting techniques, we were introduced to sashiko. Lizane discovered a creative synergy in working with Keiko, and we are happy to open up this creative exploration to others drawn to the slow crafts. More about KeikoKeiko Oboshi was born on December 25, 1978, in Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Even at a young age, she was interested in travelling abroad, and in 2010, she studied the fundamentals of fine art at the Bremen Art Academy in Germany. The drawing and paper cutting techniques she acquired during this time laid the foundation for her later artistic expression. She had to discontinue her studies due to family reasons. She found her way back to the arts in 2016 and rented a studio with two friends and began indigo dyeing. While promoting indigo dyeing and offering workshops, she became acquainted with the traditional Japanese craft of sashiko. Fascinated by its depth, she began to incorporate it into her own work. While deepening her understanding of the fusion of dyeing and sashiko, she recognised the need for knowledge of tailoring. From 2018 to 2020, she completed a two-year apprenticeship in textile and fashion tailoring. During this time, she gained a deep understanding of the properties of fabrics and the techniques for creating more three-dimensional works. Since 2020, she works as a freelance artist. Keiko is based in Berlin. _ Keiko hosts sashiko workshops at MUJI and UNIQLO and also regularly offers her own workshops, preserving the traditional sashiko technique while incorporating her favourite geometric patterns and paper-cut motifs, as well as modern design elements. Keiko strives to create forms of expression that honour tradition yet remain vibrant in the present. She explores all possibilities and creates a unique work that blends the warmth of handcrafting with sophisticated design.
