Every year on the Sunday before National Games Day, a tug-of-war competition is held in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, attracting tens of thousands of participants and even larger spectators. This event has been listed in the Guinness World Records since 1997 and is recognized as the world's largest tug-of-war, with a rope weighing 40 tons and measuring 200 meters in length. Each side of the tug-of-war can accommodate up to 15,000 participants, making it a grand and solemn gathering.
