"En dan word je verrast" is a thought-provoking and humorous production that delves into the pressures faced by young adults. The story revolves around a protagonist who finds themselves confronted with unexpected surprises on the eve of their twenty-fifth birthday. Their friends, full of pride over their own achievements, gather in their home to celebrate. As the alcohol flows freely, they boast about promotions, upcoming cohabitation, and successful careers. Meanwhile, our protagonist still lives with their parents, struggling with basic tasks like cooking a pizza and feeling unlucky in love. This tragicomic play explores the themes of performance anxiety, identity, and the unrelenting desire to achieve milestones. It takes an intimate look into the mind of a twenty-something plagued by self-doubt. Who are you without accomplishments? The exhibition will showcase the works of both national and international artists, including Black Speaks Back (Belgium/Netherlands), Lard Buurman (Netherlands), Monika Dahlberg (Kenya/Netherlands), Jacopo Grilli (Italy/Netherlands), Hassan Issah (Ghana), Giovanni Jona (Suriname), and Patricia Ribas (Brazil/Netherlands). The artists resided in Heesterveld, where the BijlmAIR studio is located. Through this exhibition, it becomes evident that the Zuidoost community continues to inspire artists from around the world in unique ways. Notably, Patricia Ribas traveled to Brazil during this time to work on her latest film, Para M., which explores the impact of Dutch colonial history.
