Hotel hofgarten Stayed for 1 night in September 2024 on our European driving holiday and I really don’t know we’re to start. I guess the first place is to start is to let you know this has been the worst hotel we have ever stayed in, bar none. The hotel claims to be a 4 star hotel. Based on the 4 star hotels we have stayed in throughout the world this hotel would struggle to achieve 1 star. 1. The facilities. After checking in we asked about using the outside terrace and bar. We were told that there was a party planned for late afternoon and evening and the bar, terrace, and restaurant could not be used. Obviously we were disappointed. 2. The room. Cheap flat pack white melamine wardrobe area, combined with a 70’s veneered brown wood desk. A small TV on a shelf ceiling level with its black wires running down the wall. A bathroom door with clear glass offering no privacy. A weird bright red chair in the corner. A big heavy cover on the bed (27 deg c). The double bed is 2 singles pushed together with separate duvets. A safe in the wardrobe with no key. Random bright lighting with no ambience. A moveable air conditioning unit on wheels with a large corrugated tube to expel the hot air that had to be hung from an open window. No coffee or tea facilities. 3. Sleeping. After returning to our room from dinner in the city we discovered that: A. The room was very hot despite the fact we had left the air conditioning box running whilst we were out. B. Our room overlooked the terrace were the party was in full swing with loud amplified live music. We could barely hear our selves speak due to having to keep the window open for the air conditioning outlet tube. Subsequently sleep was impossible. 4. I dressed and went down to reception to ask at what time the party would end only to find a small sign on the reception desk saying they were unavailable, I wonder why? To conclude….. 4 star hotel??? Surely this is a joke Did they offer a refund for not being able to use the bar, restaurant, or outside terrace??? No For approximately £400 per night we were totally robbed. The hotel knew that they had booked a party that took over all of their facilities weeks if not months previously. Did they inform us of this? In order to give us the opportunity to book alternative accommodation??? NO Lucerne is a beautiful town with plenty of fantastic bars and restaurants and we would absolutely recommend visiting. However to avoid disappointment please do not use the NOT 4 star hotel Hofgarten, I’m sure there are lots of establishments far superior for much less money.
