The Hampton by Hilton York hotel puts the city's most fascinating attractions on your doorstep. Overlooking the ancient Roman walls surrounding the city, this service-focused hotel is set in the heart of York's historic city center. Guests are walking distance from major tourist destinations such as York Minster, the Jorvik Viking Center, and York Dungeons, where actors depict life in medieval times. With 119 modern rooms equipped with free WiFi, flat-screen TV and a comfortable Hampton bed, this hotel offers great value and friendly service for any visit to the area. Business travellers will appreciate the proximity to York's corporate business district, in addition to work facilities such as a 24-hour business center and a boardroom that can be reserved for meetings or events. Complimentary breakfast is served every morning in the hotel restaurant, and a variety of popular local restaurants and pubs are within walking distance. Come and go as you please - a day trip in a neighbouring city is as easy as a short walk to York Railway Station.

"Caught in a weekend + peak season, the room rate was quite expensive. The room itself wasn't very big, but we were able to check in early. With the sofa bed pulled out, there was barely any space left after opening our luggage. The windows were sealed, and the air conditioning worked decently. Breakfast was a typical English breakfast, and it was included by default with our stay. There were no vegetables or fruits, but it was filling enough. The hotel is within walking distance of the train station. Recommended for a short stay."

"It's about a 17-minute walk from the train station, which can be a bit of a trek if you have luggage. You can store your bags for free in the basement before check-in. It's an old building, so there's no elevator, but the staff kindly helped me carry my luggage upstairs when I checked in. The lack of a bed curtain was a slight inconvenience, but overall it was a good stay."

"I booked a room and checked in, but when I saw it, the room was too small for me and my three children. The hotel's front desk was very kind and switched me to a slightly larger room on the first floor, but it had a strange smell. I ended up checking out and rebooked through Trip.com. The conditions at the Inn were indeed a bit subpar, and the price wasn't low either. I wouldn't really recommend it."

"I stayed for two nights. I stayed in one of the Sidings Double rooms and was pleased with the size, comfort and cleanliness of my room. It was a very quiet part of the hotel, and although I had a great view of the garden and station - I heard no noise at all so had a very peaceful sleep. The only slight disappointment I have, is that the hotel pool was quite tiny and was too crowded even at an off peak time, but this does not detract from the hotel and the leisure facility is really just a bonus - there is so much to see and do within the city that I had plenty to keep me occupied during my stay. York is a magical place. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. I have already booked this hotel again to bring my young son and do a spooky ghost tour in the autumn. Location-wise this hotel can’t be beaten, and the hotel staff are super helpful and friendly."

"I am very disappointed with my room assignment. Before my arrival, I specifically requested rooms near the elevator and connecting rooms (or at least rooms close to each other) because I am traveling with my young children. Unfortunately, none of my requests were accommodated. Instead, I was assigned two separate rooms on different floors (2nd and 6th floors). To make matters worse, each floor requires a separate key card to access, making it extremely inconvenient and nearly impossible for my family to move between rooms. Additionally, one of the rooms is located at the very end of the hallway, far from the elevator, despite my request for a room nearby. These arrangements are the exact opposite of what I requested and create significant difficulties when traveling with children. I made these requests in advance because they are important for my family’s safety and convenience, yet they appear to have been completely overlooked."

Hotel near Clifton,York
A 10-minute walk from York Minster sits our home in this noble city. The remains of the Roman walls are close to the hotel making this treasure of a place to explore entirely walkable. History is everywhere and so is superb shopping dining and drinking. The building is a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse of extremely stately proportions and head-turningly good looks. Inside the high ceilings and original features are joined by the kind of things we like to share with our guests. Pantries stocked full of treats for the taking great restaurant food throughout the day delicious drinks from the bar a spa centered on bespoke therapies and a straight-from-the-heart welcome.

"A solid 3 star experience but not more than that. They say they offer bike courier pick up for your luggage from the train station, but I didn't get sent any information about how to book it, every time I tried to call I couldn't get through to a human, and when I eventually found an email address to contact about it, no one replied. We were put in a room on the very top floor right after the heat wave, the temperature up there was still so warm, could feel it going up in as we ascended the stairs, but I couldn't open the window in the room very much without bugs flying in. They provided a small fan but it didn't do much. Our room was cramped, not really anywhere to store your luggage and the bathroom's only surface space to put your things was a ledge above the toilet which I didn't like. On the other hand, all the people we spoke to at reception were friendly and helpful, the location was convenient and the pantry was appreciated."

So, if you’re looking for a blissful escape from everyday life, that’s still within walking distance of the historic city center, then the Best Western York Pavilion Hotel is just what you need.

"We only used the accommodation for two nights without breakfast or any other meals. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and the coffee was great. The decor was really nice with a jazz feel. It was very quaint and vintage. I would imagine a stay in the summer would be very nice as the courtyard was very pretty and peaceful."

"Great value room in a lovely rural location, reasonably close to York. Receptionist was friendly and helpful. I had a good quiet night’s sleep. Evening meal in the restaurant was fine, but a bit overpriced for what it was and service in the restaurant was friendly but slow. I would definitely stay again though if I was in the area."

In York City Centre, our hotel is within a 10-minute walk of major attractions like Jorvik Viking Centre and York Barbican event centre. York Minster Cathedral and dozens of shops, eateries, and bars are within one mile. The University of York is just over a mile away. Enjoy free breakfast and our 24-hour fitness centre.

"The location is great, and a morning stroll through the town was lovely. The only downside was that the hotel's air conditioning wasn't working. I contacted the front desk three times, but to no avail. The first time, the lady at the front desk suggested turning it on and off multiple times to activate it. The second time, she came to the room to demonstrate, but when that didn't work, she said she'd go to the server room to adjust the AC settings, which also yielded no results. The third time, when I contacted a different staff member at the front desk, I was asked, 'Has someone already tried to fix it?' Then they brought a fan, repeatedly saying 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.' They explained that the AC cooling system couldn't be activated because the weather in York was cool. It was just 'I'm sorry' after that. It was the first time I'd heard such a reason for an AC not working. Nevertheless, the town of York is still very beautiful."

Environment: Probably the best hotel in York, right? Of course, it's not cheap. The executive room I booked was very spacious, and the bed was comfortable. Facilities: My friend and I both booked executive rooms, but it seems some rooms are older and some are newly renovated. The older rooms had a drying rack, which my newer room didn't seem to have. Cleanliness: Decent. Service: Executive rooms come with breakfast, but it's just a typical British buffet breakfast, not much variety. I personally didn't like it; maybe I'm just tired of 'white people food'.

Great hotel! Absolutely would recommend. Room was lovely and clean, hotel in a great location. Easy to walk to/from town and to the high street. Staff were lovely, great little tuck shop area to buy drinks/snacks. And air con which was a god send in the recent hot weather. I initially booked into a different hotel which was awful, found this place and booked immediately - very happy I moved!

Located within a golf course, the hotel boasts a tranquil, peaceful, and comfortable environment with beautiful scenery. However, it's quite far from the city center, about a 30-minute drive from York's Old Town. If you're not traveling by car, it's not the best choice for accommodation. But if you have a car, it's an excellent option as parking is free. The hotel has two restaurants with good food, but they are very expensive and the portions are small – typical fine dining. If you don't want to spend too much on food, it's best to eat in the city before entering the hotel.

The hotel has a great location, not far from the city center and attractions. The front desk service was mediocre. We checked out early, but then received an email asking us to self-checkout, which was confusing. A small amount of our deposit was deducted, but we didn't receive any receipt explaining why. Perhaps the snacks on the table were chargeable, but there was no clear pricing displayed. Overall, the stay was average, and the service definitely wasn't worth nearly £200 a night.

A small villa, the room is clean and tidy, very warm and quiet, the service is very good and warm, we live on the 3rd floor, there is no elevator, the suitcase is the store to help get the room, parking is also convenient. The environment of Zhou is good, and it is convenient to travel. It takes 20 minutes to walk along the river to see the tourist attractions in the downtown area. Only breakfast is very expensive. Two nights a day is a pleasant experience.

We were very disappointed with the check-in experience. The hotel assigned us rooms in a wing where the air conditioning was not working. It appeared that the staff were already aware of the problem, as my friends and I seemed to be the only guests staying in that entire wing. Unfortunately, this happened during a heatwave, making the rooms unbearably hot and very uncomfortable. I had to walk back to reception to request a room change. The staff initially offered to bring us a fan and said the hotel was fully booked, but that was not an acceptable solution in such extreme temperatures. After I insisted, my friends and I were finally moved to rooms with working air conditioning. What made the situation even more confusing was that guests who checked in after us were assigned rooms on other floors with functioning air conditioning. That left us wondering why we had been placed in rooms with a known problem in the first place. Guests should never be checked into rooms with a major maintenance issue like this, especially during a heatwave. While we appreciated that the hotel eventually moved us, the whole experience left us with serious doubts about how room allocations were handled —- is it because i booked via Trip.com ?

Amazing location including a balcony over the river (from the hotel bar). The bedrooms were nicely decorated and in reasonable condition. There were no drawers for clothes and the wardrobe had no doors, there were just open shelves and open hanging rails with some coat hangers provided. There were several Yorkshire teabags and instant Nescafé coffee sticks (with sugar and milk) provided, and gourmet biscuits. The WiFi was fast. Plug sockets (including USB) were available by the bed but there were no sockets next to the bed. There is no air conditioning but fans are provided. The bathroom was in very poor condition with rust, mold, a very loud extractor fan and a light that took a long time to turn on. Water pressure was excellent however. Breakfast was a typical Full English buffet with sausages, bacon, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, tomato, fried bread and hash browns. Cereal and pastries were also available. You do need to reserve a breakfast time each day. My room was cleaned daily during my stay with tea/coffee/milk/biscuits replenished

I've stayed at this hotel before and I will definitely be staying again. The location is ideal for me with easy access to the city centre either by walking, bus, or taxi. The rooms have always been very clean and a good size too. The buffet style breakfast is always superb and leisure facilities give you a chance to unwind in the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The staff have always been pleasant, friendly, and polite. 5 stars from me!

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend it. The location is okay, just outside the city walls. However, all the rooms are in the attic, requiring two flights of very narrow stairs, making it impossible to bring up even a slightly larger suitcase. The floors are uneven, and in some areas, it feels like they could easily collapse; even with a carpet, they still creak when you walk on them. What's even more frustrating is that the attic is already stuffy, and a constant instant noodle smell drifts up from the downstairs restaurant. On the night we checked in, we found one of the air conditioners wasn't working, but the front desk said the maintenance staff had already left for the day and could only provide us with a small electric fan.
