good budget hotel in a good location - if you are familiar with the location. it is near Hongkou Stadium (where Shenhua play home matches). situated less than 5 minutes from Dabushui station on line 3. this area is a short distance from The Bund by taxi or over areas such as Zhongshan Park using metro. Hotel itself is a recognized chain. However, apart from the listing saying "guests from every country are excepted", it looked as if I was the first foriegne they had ever seen. The standard check.in guy has to call his manager to deal with the passport and registration process.... and as usual they could not help themselves from commenting a few sentences and including the word 'waiguoren' (foreigner) in them. Such behaviour in 2024 still astounds me but for 300 rmb a night in an ok location I can accept that cowardly racist comments are a part of the process. Room was clean, modern and big enough with seperate enclosed bathroom. Elevator was slow. Overall, value for money. Immediate area is lively at night and has a good number of restaurants and a place called Mingzhu Park, where there is a good bar called King's Cross.
