HanTing Hotel (Shanghai Pedestrian Street Fujian Middle Road)

Very close to Nanjing road, convenient to go around with many restaurants and shops around. Great service from the hotel staff too. The only issue was the toilet smell. Shower room door seal not tight, water flow out and flood the whole bathroom easily. The bed was also comfortable (esp if you prefer firm mattress).

I recently stayed at this hotel, and unfortunately, the experience left me with more disappointments than positive impressions. Let me share the key aspects of my stay. The room was small — barely enough space to move around comfortably. The furniture looked worn out and clearly past its prime, giving the space a rather dated and neglected feel. The shower was another major issue: it leaked constantly, making the bathroom floor wet and creating an uncomfortable environment. While the room itself was somewhat clean (basic cleaning had been done), the overall condition of the hotel was undermined by the state of the common areas. The corridors were heavily smoky — it was obvious that smoking was not properly controlled. What was even more frustrating was that if guests in the adjacent room smoked, the smell inevitably seeped into my room, ruining the air quality and making it hard to relax. The TV provided was very small and outdated, offering little entertainment value. The mattresses on the beds were quite firm — far too hard for a comfortable night’s sleep. The staff left a lot to be desired. On several occasions, I noticed employees sleeping at their desks in the common areas, which was unprofessional and concerning. Their attitude was far from welcoming — no smiles, no offers of help, and very minimal interaction beyond the bare essentials. As for meals, breakfast was technically available but required picking up from the reception. Given the overall atmosphere and service, we never felt inclined to try it. The only significant advantage of this hotel is its location. It’s situated in a very convenient area, close to major attractions, public transport hubs, and local eateries. This definitely made it easier to explore the city and get around, which was the sole bright spot of the entire stay. In summary, this hotel falls short in terms of comfort, cleanliness (in common areas), and customer service. If you’re looking for a basic place to sleep with no expectations of comfort or hospitality, it might suffice — but for a pleasant and relaxing stay, I’d strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
