The most honest review you’ll read on Beyond Kata.
I booked Beyond Kata after weeks of research, swayed by its beachside location, high price (the highest in the area), and glowing reviews. I thought, why not treat myself to the “best”? Big mistake.
👉 If you’re still deciding, book another resort now. There are stunning properties with sea views nearby that cost less than a premium room here.
The welcome at reception was warm, and while check-in was slow, it was smooth. The property is maintained, but definitely dated. For the price, it falls short of expectations, especially if you’re used to Asian standards of premium hospitality. This hotel clearly caters more to Western tourists, for whom “expensive” is just mid-budget.
We booked a premier room and requested to be moved just a few rooms up for a partial sea view, something we paid for, and they refused, despite the hotel not being fully booked. Small gestures like this make guests feel valued. Sadly, not here.
The staff were polite but not proactive. At the poolside bar, I asked for a lighter and was flatly told they had none, not even a matchbox. No effort to help, which felt disappointing.
And then, the real letdown: the beach. Crowded, noisy, dirty. Plastic bags, fishing nets, and rope floated in the water. My heart sank thinking of how much we’d paid to sit by a polluted sea. The hotel’s photos of sunbeds on the beach are misleading, those belong to local vendors, not the hotel. We didn’t even bother swimming after the first day.
Outside the hotel, the main street is lively with plenty of restaurants, bars, and even a night market that caters to most food preferences, Thai, Indian, Italian, you name it. But be warned: everything right outside the hotel is priced up for tourists staying in “fancy” resorts. Walk just a little further down the road or off the main strip, and you’ll find authentic, much better-value food and drink. This is worth knowing if you don’t want to overspend every meal.
In hindsight, if we’d stayed at Chanalai Garden Resort, Andaman Cannacia, or Orchidea Resort, we’d have enjoyed gorgeous hilltop views of the beach, quieter pools, and better value overall.
Final verdict:
- For Asian travelers expecting premium hospitality at a premium price - avoid.
- For anyone else, paying extra just to be near a crowded, polluted beach simply isn’t worth it.
✅ The only redeeming factor: the beds and rooms were genuinely lovely.
TL;DR: Overpriced, dated, staff not proactive, polluted beach, tourist-trap dining nearby. Better-value resorts with views and pools exist just up the hill.

We found this hotel to be an exceptional value. The stunning view of the beach provides a perfect backdrop for a truly quiet and relaxing stay. We never had trouble finding a spot by the pool, as there were always plenty of comfortable sun loungers available. The staff's service was fantastic, and while the breakfast was simple, it was delicious and more than enough to start our day. The hotel's location is also a major plus—everything you need, from restaurants and a night market to shopping and convenience stores, is just a short walk away. Plus, it’s a quick and easy 15-20 minute taxi ride to Patong beach.
The try to scam you on your last day and try to charge you for things that aren’t even chargeable and then start a bargaining game to earn as much as they can and say don’t tell the management or put it in review so be careful about the girl with the short hair and dusky complexion at the desk also the pool hasn’t been cleaned in forever everything else is fine, just the reception people will try to scam you when you check out.

Highly recommended, especially for its convenient location! Five-minute walk for a self-serving laundry, ten-minute walk for a 7/11 store, fifteen-minute walk for a spacious Big C Mini superstore (in a mall near a 24-hour McDonald's & a KFC that closes at 1:00am) & twenty-minute walk for the famous Phuket Central shopping centres.
It's in a safe neighborhood where no single crime had been witnessed throughout my 12-night solo stay (I always strolled after midnight alone).
Housekeepers & receptionists were polite, caring & very efficient (I like their towel folding skills, particularly the scorpion fold!). I like the bathroom design with a shower compartment for hygiene & water containment.
The only complaint is the underpowered hair dryer & little dirt on the bedding once. Yet, with such an affordable price, I really can't complain much!

The hotel is very clean and well-maintained, and the staff are genuinely kind and helpful. Hygiene and overall presentation are excellent.
However, I wouldn’t consider this a true five-star hotel — it feels more like a solid four-star. The view from the room was disappointing, as it doesn’t overlook the street or any scenery, which was a real letdown.
Also, some basic amenities were missing, such as a shaving kit and toothbrush. Another thing that bothered me was the towel policy – there are only two towels in the room, and to get new ones, you first have to return the used ones.

I booked this hotel on a whim on my last day, fearing I'd miss my flight, but it turned out to be really convenient for getting to the airport. There's a 7-Eleven right across the street, and if you walk a bit further, you hit Nai Yang Beach. Along the way, there's even a night market with incredibly cheap stuff. I also got a spa treatment nearby. Overall, the value for money here is excellent! It's a shame the pool was under renovation at the time, otherwise, it would have been perfect.
The coconut smoothie across the street was also delicious! Only 40 Baht a cup!

The hotel is clean. A few restaurants nearby and a 7-11. It takes about 7 minutes to get to the beach. Good value hotel, but you need a moped or car. The staff is really friendly. There is a mosque right next door, which is lovely. Deluxe room, downstairs.

Compliment for the Wonderful Team at Zenmaya Oceanfront Phuket
I would like to extend my heartfelt compliments to the wonderful staff at Zenmaya Oceanfront Phuket — Mrs. Saranya Nitiprapan (Elle), Puy (Housekeeper), and Pa (Reception Manager). Their professionalism, warmth, and dedication made my stay truly enjoyable and memorable.
I really enjoyed my stay and especially my room is seafront and unblock view , the room is literally directly in front of the ocean view. , can near the sound of the waves from your room, loving every minute of balcony view. Jacuzzi was a bonus and it made you feel so comfortable after a long day of walk .
Elle has been exceptionally attentive and prompt in replying to all my emails. She handled every request efficiently and always provided thoughtful solutions. Her professionalism and problem-solving attitude gave me great confidence before and during my stay.
Pa, the Reception Manager, was equally impressive. She was at the front desk during my check-in and also responded quickly to my live chat messages through the Zenmaya app. Every request I made was immediately attended to under her careful supervision. Her attention to detail and proactive approach are truly commendable.
Puy, the Housekeeper, did a fantastic job maintaining my room. Everything was always tidy and neatly arranged. Initially, I noticed that small towels were missing, but after I made the request, she remembered and ensured they were placed in my room every day thereafter. Her consistency and care were much appreciated.
Your staff are true gems — rare to find and a great credit to the hotel. Please continue the excellent work! I will definitely recommend Zenmaya Oceanfront Phuket to my family, relatives, and friends, and I look forward to returning for another stay in the near future. Never regret booking this hotel
This is the best hotel that I stayed for one night. The service and breakfast are excellent. The swimming pool are perfect and clean. This hotel was very closed to the naiyang beach. I will come back next time.

MMrV12341234LOVED our stay here and would recommend the place to others. See my below pros and cons.
Pros:
-the staff was very friendly. They all worked very hard to make sure the guests are happy.
-The food was delicious (especially the curry’s). Everything is good except maybe some of the western things like the hamburgers. Stick with the Thai dishes. The breakfast buffet was slightly above average.
-The rooms were very clean. No bugs.
-They provided us a very nice crib for our nine month old
-we never once heard our neighbors, or any guests, through the walls.
-The ac worked great.
-There is a free shuttle to old town Phuket each day (but see cons below on this).
You can use the Bolt or Grab app to call a taxi. This is much cheaper than the on site taxi.
-Free ride to and from the local beach (it’s not realistic to walk there because the road is too steep).
-The beach is very quiet compared to most beaches in Phuket. There is a bar at the beach that serves all kinds of drinks.
There are free beach chairs for you. If they are all taken the staff has large picnic mats for you to use (see below for negatives about the beach)
-beach area has a small children’s playground. One of those plastic castle style climb / slide things. There is also two small football (soccer) goals and a volleyball net.
-the beach is really nice in its own way. The sand and water is not as beautiful as other Phuket beaches, especially those on the west side, but the views of the nearby islands make it very serene and something the west side beaches don’t have. If you’re not coming to snorkel and see fish, it’s a good beach. There is also lots of shade if needed.
-you get one free kayak rental per stay
-The sheets in the room were changed every day and were very clean and comfortable
-The hot water was really hot and never ran out.
-our room had a mini fridge that worked great and had a little freezer section.
-The pool is very clean, cool, and relaxing. You can order drinks right in the pool
-The upper pool has an amazing view of the Thai islands. Make sure to get to the pool early (8-9am) and secure a chair or two if you plan to have a pool day.
-speaking of the view, because you’re on the east side, there are many islands in the distance, making the view’s spectacular. The west side beaches you’re looking out into open ocean. Here you see mountains and hills in the distance.
Cons:
-they give your room 2 water bottles each day, but you’re stuck at the resort unless you hire a taxi. So we had to continually buy water from the desk or restaurant until we went out to the 7-11 (I recommend stopping at a convenience store on your taxi ride to the resort and stock up on water, drinks, snacks etc that you enjoy)
-you have to get a taxi everywhere, even to a convenience store.
-There is a small store on site that sells snacks, drinks, souvenirs, cigarettes, etc. but it was never open. We got really frustrated because our 9 month old uses water for his formula and we simply couldn’t get enough water, so we had to repeatedly ask to use the store and then a worker finally came and let us buy some water.
-Our room did not have electric outlets next to the bed (could be a pro for some?). Actually, there was only one outlet in the room that was reasonably accessible to charge phones. (Plug outlets are multi purpose, had USA & Europe holes)
-The snorkeling is terrible at the Supalai beach. Very murky and cloudy water (The tides are rather extreme here, hundreds of feet of shore line exposed), leaving a muddy/marsh like area at the beach each evening. We even did a day trip over to Naka Yai island and Nahka noi island and the snorkeling was also pointless because the water is so cloudy. If you plan to snorkel don’t stay in the east side. But if you just want to side by the shore, relax, and get in for a quick dip… the beach is ok.
-No cloths line In Room to hang wet clothes / beach towels
-the free shuttle into town only seats 11 people so you need to r
AAnonymous UserWe stayed for 3 nights and moved 3 times.
The first one was for changed in location. We were given a room next to a construction. It was dusty and there’s smell of paint. The second one, there were all kinds of smudges, spots and streaks on the walls — yellow, brown and white. Hair of various colors were all over the place. I found a round wound plaster I think sticking to the handle of the shower area. I asked them to clean the room while we’re there to which they responded to immediately. The transfer would have to be down by you without assistance, by the way. Oh and there’s no one to help you take up your luggages. Nonetheless, some trolleys that look a lot like the one for supermarkets are there, on standby, for your convenience. Watch out for this especially when there are children involved, PWD and etc. Some rooms especially on the ground floor I saw had steps in almost random places. Anyhow, we were quite comfortable after our second move. In the morning, the breakfast buffet area was overwhelming. There was an event running right next to the restaurant. Being first timers, you would really need to find your way through the maze of people and activities all happening at the same time. Incidentally that morning it was raining hard as well. There were all sorts leaks. It made a lot of mess especially on the floor. You need to set your table. Think of a food hall at the mall, this is generally the system. Prepare for a long line ahead of you at the 2 coffee stations. That morning, the team was able to manage it in my opinion. Service was courteous and friendly. The food was okay. Highlight for me would be the excellent choice of fruits — good quality, plus the pancake. The egg station was outside, unfortunately with the rain, it was quite a feat to get much beloved eggs. The roof was leaking in many parts in this area too. It wasn’t the most hygienic. A soup station is next to it. No A/C in the restaurant too. Old displays for cheese and salad. It reminded me of the grocery stores I went to with my family as a child. Aside from those two I have mentioned, the rest would be far from what you could expect from a 5-star. At this point, I’m still trying to place the hotel. But it’s surely not 5-star luxury. In fact, it helped so much when I reduced the expectation.
There are many places to be explored outside. The sidewalks are observed — truly helps to explore the place in peace with a child in tow. Ours was at the plaza nearby. This was truly enjoyable. It’s just on a tiny part on one side of the road where we missed the side walk. There was a big parking lot that helped us. Though a concern (for us) of course is exposure to smoking, some were doing so while they wait in the car and etc. At least in our rooms, upon entering there’s a tiny bit of elevation. Prepare to power through all your belongings with wheels up this step.
The interior of the room in actual is many steps down vs the photos. No toothbrush and toothpaste.
The toilet bowl has a consistent yellow buildup just above the tip of the water. I think it’s the water in Phuket. I hope it’s just the water. But given the experience at the on set with the cleanliness issue, it could likely be a different story. There’s bidet if this is important for you. There’s no cleaning/make up room everyday I was informed.
There’s a last move for us because our room window had to be locked.
On our last day, it was raining the whole morning. There’s water on the floor in our room. I thought my child made a mess. Upon closer look, the floor was leaking. The tiles were squeezed as we walked. This is a first time for me but not surprising given our experience from the start. Before we finally left, we were asked for our experience, I told the lady at the checkout counter about this finale. She surely apologized for it and she offered the sweetest smile.
Deposit of 3K Baht for us for a 3-night stay. The change was returned during the checkout.
AAnonymous UserI had a wonderful stay here! The place is peaceful and very private, with a great atmosphere all around. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. Breakfast was delicious with a nice variety of options, and I loved the distant sea view. I really enjoyed my time here and would definitely love to come back again!
KKristy StridBeautiful resort, its huge! Lovely grounds & beautifully kept gardens, wonderful clean pools that cater for all age groups, right across the road from the beach for alternative beach/pool swims. A short 5 minute walk to the nearest shops, both beach side & behind locations,, 15 minute walk to Bangla Road. House keeping staff, like all we experienced in Phuket, are so kind & helpful. Overall such a lovely stay. Beautiful rooms with a lovely view. Breakfast was impeccable!
DDonドニMy first time staying at a deck dorm style. The manager was willing to come, and did check in for me in the middle of the night. Do the 200 Baht refundable deposit. Give me the towel. Informed me to the rule of no sandal/shoes at 2nd floor to maintain the floor kept clean.
That is all you can see.
Nice room, chill, no noise in the room, and other ”I am sleeping” rules.
If you have an issue of not using sandals in the bathroom, then honestly you just need a hotel with a private room. Yeah, upper deck was scary. I dreamt of falling down 😪
Well, deck dorm style is not just for me. But a good experience here, and with 217 Baht (including tax) I paid, it is worth the money.
This hotel provides breakfast too. Something I don't really expect 😁😁
They also give me a key gift over a checkout. For sure, I get my 200 Baht back.
GGuest UserI believe it used to be a Six Senses resort. It's located on an island, just a five-minute speedboat ride away. The surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. The hotel truly embraces its natural environment, so be prepared to encounter wildlife like centipedes, insects, snakes, monkeys, and various small birds. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to completely unwind and relax at the property. However, the food variety at the hotel is somewhat limited, and there are virtually no other dining options on the island. Despite these points, it's still a great place overall.
SSergey StatsenkoWe have stayed in the hotel for 4 days on the way home. Overall - we do not like this stay. Rooms were clean, staff tries to do its work. But - room had sewage smell. During our stay - we have found 4 huge cockroaches in the room. One of them was in the toilet bowl. Breakfast was not too bad but at the same time - nothing good. Choice is not too impressive but I was not hungry after it. Will I get back to this hotel - definitely no.
AAnonymous UserAlthough the building of the hotel itself is considerably nice and new, the service really needs improvement. Almost all staffs were distant and did not give out a five star hotel kind of services. Birthday arrangement was honored, thank you to the team. The pool was very nice and the activities were varied. Please retrain the staffs to reach the quality of a 5-star hotel
GGuest UserDuring the rainy season, the itinerary is often affected by sudden weather changes. The Chinese front desk provides timely weather updates like a meteorological consultant and helps adjust the itinerary. The spacious room becomes a comfortable viewing platform on rainy days. The 24-hour front desk and luggage storage service allow us to go out whenever the rain stops, without worrying about luggage and check-out time. In variable weather, this flexibility is particularly important.
LluloveluThe hotel is better than what the comment says.
Location wise, it depends on your travel style. If you are more of an explorer, I wouldn’t recommend this
Hotel or location, because it’s kinda far from the main sites, and the nearest 711 is 800 meters away.
But if you are looking for a relaxing beach/pool holiday, or come with kids I will strongly recommend the place.
First the bfast is good, room is spacious, facilities was good, staff are polite. So nothing to complain about.
Though I think there’s room for improvement for cleanliness, doesn’t mean it’s dirty, just some details are not fully covered.
Given the price, I’ll say it does worth the money and would like to come back again.
