From modern skyscrapers to Victorian-era buildings, this Australian gem has it all for architecture lovers like myself. As I strolled along the Yarra River, I was greeted by the sight of Federation Square's iconic modern design. With its sloping planes and mix of zinc, glass and sandstone, this public square shows Melbourne's embrace of contemporary architecture. Nearby Flinders Street Station, in contrast, is a stunning remnant of the city's colonial past. The prominent domed building built in 1910 remains a treasured landmark. Venturing into the Central Business District, I craned my neck upwards to admire the towering skyscrapers. Our guide highlighted the unusual triangle-shaped Tower Melbourne, before pointing out the striking blue glass exterior of the Eureka Tower. At almost 300 meters high, this skyscraper offers incredible views from its observation deck. Just outside the city center in inner suburbs like Fitzroy, Carlton and St Kilda, blocks of attached Victorian terraces with wrought iron lacework delighted me with their old-world charm. And the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, constructed in 1880 for the Melbourne International Exhibition, remains an outstanding symbol of the city's 19th century pride and confidence. It's definitely on the expensive side but if you're visiting with more friends it's a great way to try a few items off their menu & that's exactly what we did! I really enjoyed the experience as the food was very delicate & fresh. We ordered about 7 starters & 3 Mains with a bottle of red wine for just under $300 AUD! Honestly, for the amount of food we ordered + the quality I would consider this pretty affordable compared to similar places in Singapore. Melbourne Museum Melbourne Museum is another activity that we recommend you to go to because it is a fun & free thing to do in Melbourne list. It is quite large here. We spent several hours walking around. This time, there will be a dinosaur show. There will be a story about the 🦖Triceratops, which is one of the first living things on Earth. There is also Gandel Gondwana Garden to walk around and see trees, rocks found in Australia, talking about our world, including animals in Australia. The 2nd floor is the same as art, product design, film making, building design, houses. Back on the 1st floor, there will be a restaurant zone and souvenir shops for you to shop to your heart's content. It is another place for us to learn. Whether children or adults, you can come and visit. It's so much fun. This place doesn't just let us walk around, but you can also play and experience various activities here. Got more to share from last year’s Melbourne trip. First up, Flinders Street Station. Seriously, that place is like stepping into a Victorian postcard. It's so grand! And get this – it's the busiest train station in the whole southern hemisphere! Imagine all the stories it could tell. I just loved watching the hustle and bustle, imagining all the journeys starting and ending there. Then, I dragged myself out of bed early (yes, me!) and headed to Queen Victoria Market. Best.decision.ever. The people-watching? Off the charts! It’s just so vibrant and real. Plus, the smells! Food heaven. Okay, now for something a bit heavier: the Old Melbourne Gaol. "Gaol" is just an old-timey word for jail, by the way. This place is intense. It's a real jail, and you can feel the weight of history there. It really hit me how many people suffered injustice during the gold rush. Definitely made me think. But then, to lighten the mood, I wandered into the State Library. Wow. Just wow. Melbourne really lives up to its rep as a city of literature. The architecture is stunning, the books are endless, and it's just a great place to hang out. You can tell it's a real social hub. And of course, no trip to Melbourne is complete without checking out the street art. Hosier Lane and ACDC Lane? Forget boring walls! These alleys are exploding with color and creativity. Good measure has coffee and non coffee as well as sandwiches, desserts and alcoholic beverages. We ordered a batchbrew and a monkblanc. The monkblanc is good measure’s signature coffee! It also looked incredibly delicious and resembled korean style cream coffee. They looked very busy and when I went to good measure, there seemed to be more than 10 staff members including baristas. That many customers came to drink coffee and takeaway. I felt a lot of vibrant vibes from Good measure. They were always busy but never lost their smiles and sense of happiness. Last May, I went a week-long trip to Melbourne. It was a simple getaway, a relaxing holiday to explore new things and enjoy a different city. Here are my favourite experiences! 1️⃣ National Gallery of Victoria 🖼️ The NGV is a massive art gallery that is free entry to all. There is the main building (opposite the Royal Botanic Gardens) as well as the Ian Potter Centre (Federation Square). The former houses international art while the latter houses Aboriginal Australian art. Though I was not an art buff myself, the works were really interesting and visually appealing. Made two trips here! 2️⃣ Royal Exhibition Building 🎪 This building is of historical significance not only because of its connection to Melbourne’s World Expo in 1880, but also because it is the only surviving building from that era of world expos. Go for the guided tour, it was very engaging. My friend studying at the University of Melbourne actually told me they use that hall for their exams! Must feel really small! 3️⃣ Rippon Lea Estate ⛲️ Located in the southern suburbs of Melbourne stands a colonial-era mansion and garden. The guide was a really good, showing us around this relic of a gilded age. There are many interesting historical artefacts inside from the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The gardens outside is really pretty, especially the artificial lake. 4️⃣ Puffing Billy Railway 🚂 Also in the outskirts of Melbourne, I took the Puffing Billy Railway from Belgrave to Menzies Creek. The railway is powered by steam locomotives and is well-preserved. The views were incredible especially when crossing the trestle bridge. Even spotted a wallaby! Best part is that you sit on the window ledge with your legs dangling out! 5️⃣ Melbourne’s infrastructure Melbourne is a really well-planned city with great infrastructure. The public transport centres around the tram system, which is free in the inner city. (Though I have noticed that even outside of the free zone, locals simply do not tap their cards, and no one bats an eye) In the city centre, there is even free wifi on the streets! Today, start from La Trobe Street, take Route 35 (every 12 minutes, clockwise, ends at 5pm, with maps on board, old-fashioned decor). Pass Flagstaff Gardens, Old Melbourne Gaol, Carlton Gardens (very beautiful, the building behind is the Exhibition Hall, and behind that is the Melbourne Museum), continue on Route 35 for 2 stops to Parliament Station, where there are free 45-minute guided tours on weekdays, limited to 25 people, you need to queue at the entrance in advance. Having just missed the 12pm tour, I continued on Route 35 for 2 stops to Flinders Street and got off at Federation Square (the tram passes Old Treasury Building and Treasury Gardens). Federation Square is right next to ACMI, which has exhibitions on light and shadow and the origins of film, worth a visit. Diagonally opposite is St Paul's Cathedral, and diagonally opposite that is Flinders Street Station. Due to time constraints, I took a quick tour of the cathedral and then headed back. I walked back to Parliament at 1:30pm, but still missed the 2pm tour, so I had to queue for the 3pm tour. Many people were taking wedding photos here. Security checks, passport registration, and bag storage start at 2:30pm. The front hall, the Parliament Chamber (one side represents the government, the other side the opposition), the rooftop Parliament Garden, the library (1861), the legal chamber, this nearly 1-hour tour is well worth it. Then take Route 109 to LUNE on Collins Street, card payment only, ordered an almond croissant, AUD 11.8, with almond syrup inside, quite delicious. Then walk to the NGV Australia next to Federation Square, the 2nd floor is Australian art, the 3rd floor is an exhibition of famous painters. A 5-minute walk takes you to Hoisier Lane graffiti street. Take Route 19 to Queen Victoria Market Station, this is the nearest free tram stop to the University of Melbourne, get off and continue walking 1 km, in about 10 minutes you will reach the University of Melbourne. Return to Flinders Street, have a steak, and wait for sunset. On Friday nights, there are concerts at Federation Square, very lively, from Princes Bridge you can see the Yarra River, on one side you can see the Australian Open venue, on the other side you can see Queen's Bridge, view Southbank, the night view is nice.

I went to the super famous "Seven Seeds Coffee" in Melbourne! This cafe, located in a quiet area, is a cafe with a roaster that serves carefully selected third wave coffee. The interior of the store is an old brick building, and there is a calm atmosphere. There is a lab-like room in the back where coffee is compared, and every Friday morning at 9am, a coffee comparison event called "Public Cupping" is held. The design of the store and goods of "Seven Seeds" is modern and stylish. In particular, the logo that is an arrangement of the famous jacket of "JOY DIVISION" is cute! If you like coffee, this is a cafe you should definitely visit.
