If you are not a fanatic of ancient Greek civilization, I don't think you need to go to the Valley of the Temples. On the whole, it is a huge botanical garden that preserves some relics. It feels like a day of hiking in the Valley of the Temple, because there are 10km steps after walking through several major ruins. More than 2,500 years ago, the ancient Greeks lived here. After 2,500 years, some of the frames and main supporting pillars of the buildings at that time can still be preserved. It is really emotional. These relics are also of great value to archaeology. This is also the place where the most intact ancient Greek architecture remains outside of Greece. The whole site scenic spot is very large. Several major temple ruins are scattered, far apart, and the ground is full of stone roads, which is relatively difficult for the elderly and children. There are all kinds of plants, all kinds of giant cacti, apricot trees and peach trees everywhere. From February to March, it is just the flowering season and the right blooms. #summerdream Scala dei Turchi, a mesmerizing coastal wonder, graces the Sicilian shoreline between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle in the province of Agrigento. Its name translates to “Stair of the Turks,” and this unique formation is anything but ordinary. Nature has meticulously shaped this dazzling white cliff over time. Composed of soft, calcareous marl, it curves sinuously, its terraces smoothed by salty breezes and the relentless sea. Azure waters contrast against the luminous rock, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Legend whispers that ancient Arab and Turkish marauders sought refuge in this bay, lending the site its evocative name. Today, we marvel at its beauty, but let us tread lightly—each fragment of this marl holds magic, not medicinal properties.

The Turkish Steps was our second stop in Agrigento. We took a bus from Agrigento's bus terminal (Piazzale Rosselli) and then walked for half an hour to the Turkish Steps (the bus runs are infrequent, so be sure to plan your time well~). Looking at the endless sea, it was really hard to imagine that we were at the southernmost tip of Italy, and that Africa was on the other side. The Turkish Steps are a type of sedimentary rock that was eroded by sea water and wind over the years to create a stair-like appearance. In the past, pirates would anchor their ships close to the shore and then climb up the Turkish Steps. Tourists are not allowed to climb the Turkish Steps now, otherwise they will be punished 🙅🏻♀️. The water here is very clear, probably because of the lower accessibility and relatively low number of tourists. In fact, I found during this trip that the water in the Italian beaches is very clear, and there is almost no garbage in the water or on the beaches. Even if some beaches are crowded, the sea water will not become dirty. One of the reasons is probably because the people and tourists here are willing to protect nature and earth resources🫶🏻🌱 After returning to Agrigento, we took a bus to Catania and continued our journey to the south. -To be continued- 🥪Panini recommendation - food truck near Catania Centrale (next to Stazione food) 🗣️We can choose one meat and three side dishes. The meat is grilled on order and full of gravy. Finally, there are a lot of crispy fries on the panini. The portion is generous. Getting There - Bus 1, 2, 2/, 3, 3/ Attractions - Temple of the Dioscuri, Temple of Olympian Zeus (Jupiter), Temple of Heracles, and Temple of Concordia Food & Restaurants - Café Valle dei Templi is an UNESCO world heritage. It’s a very popular tourist destination in Agrigento, Sicily. There are six temples in this reserved area. You can buy day tour from the agency or you can go there by bus. Bus 1, 2, 3 are quite frequent. It took us an hour to get there. There’s also tourist bus that you can hop on and off to go to lots of destinations in Agrigento. It took us about 3hours to walk through the whole place. Don’t forget to bring your suntan lotion even if you go in September!

Sicily is divided into many zones, and each zone requires at least three days of stay to get a feel for the culture. This special introduction - Turkish Ladder. This location is located below Sicily. If staying here in Arigento, you can purchase a one-day travel pass and take a free bus tour of the entire city. But to head to the Turkish steps, I suggest you follow the day tour. This is a tourist destination. You can see the sky as far as the eye can see, the sea, and most especially the sand/mountain that sits off to the side. I gathered a lot of opinions, blogs, apps, which found following day tours best however. You can apply through GetYourGuide, which has many plans that allow you to visit cultural monuments together. I was staying in Chefalu that day and after searching for a long time, I found this plan, a 2 hour drive, and finally arrived, convenient and fast. You can even swim! You really have to be there in person to be able to feel its grandeur.

Founded as a Greek colony in 580 B.C., Agrigento soon became one of the leading cities in the Mediterranean world. Its wealth came from the nearby sulphur mines, saltpans, wheat plantations and olive groves. At that time, the Greek city was known as Akragas. The famous Greek Doric temples that still remain today were all built around this time. The Romans rebuilt the city and named it Agrigentum. The town prospered until the fall of the Roman Empire. In 1997, the site was recognised by UNESCO with World Heritage status. You will see a string of ancient emples and various remains during your visit, all built between 510 and 430 BC. The better-preserved temples are located near the Temple of Giunone entrance. Do wear comfortable shoes as there will be a lot of walking. The city of Akragas was founded towards - 580 by Greek colonizers. It was first governed by bloodthirsty tyrants like Phalaris (570, 554), enlightened tyrants like Theron (488, 472), and then, under the impulse of the philosopher Empedocles, a native of the city, democracy Prevailed over a long period. The city enjoyed great prosperity, especially under Theron, until it was captured by the Carthaginians, who destroyed it almost entirely in 406. It was rebuilt and then taken by the Romans, who still developed it in 210. Akragas declined after the fall Of Rome and was gradually abandoned. The stones of its beautiful monuments were used mainly in the Middle Ages for the construction of churches. The site is nevertheless magnificent with its many vestiges of temples: temple of Concorde especially, very well preserved because transformed into church, temples of Zeus Olympian, Castor and Pollux, Hercules, Hera, Asclepius.
