The only sleeper train currently in regular service in Japan, the Sunrise Seto/Izumo, is made up of two seven-car trains. This roadside station is located southwest of Izumo City on Route 9, but it's not just any roadside station. It's a scenic spot with a panoramic view of the coastline, and there's also a popular place name monument in recent years. In the summer, it gets very crowded because there's a beach right in front of it. The souvenir shops and restaurants are also large, and it feels more like a service area on the highway than a roadside station. There are windmills nearby that are overwhelming in their power. It may not be a tourist spot, but it's well worth a visit. The coastline from Izumo City to Hamada City is currently under construction and is patched together, but it's free to use, so it's not a bad idea to take a drive and see for yourself.

Sunflower fields near Izumo Airport. Apparently managed by an agricultural cooperative called Okisu. I think Okisu comes from the place name Okisu. The sunflower fields are not particularly large, but when you take a photo of the whole field it feels spacious. Also, admission is free, so you can look around freely. There are parking spaces for about 15 cars on the premises. I visited on a Sunday, and there were not many people, so I was able to take my time taking photos. However, it's such a wonderful place that the city or the corporation should do a bit more to promote it as a tourist destination. I felt it was a real shame.
