Wat Pa Wiwet Tham Chan, the 7th branch temple of Wat Nong Pah Pong
Wat Pa Wiwek Tham Chan, the 7th branch temple of Wat Nong Pa Pong
Wat Pa Wiwek Tham Chan, Muang Sam Sip District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, is the 7th branch temple of Wat Nong Pa Pong. The first abbot is Phra Mongkhon Kittithada. It is located in a reserved forest area that is quiet and suitable for practicing Vipassana meditation.
According to records, Wat Pa Wiwek Tham Chan is a temple under the Mahanikaya sect and was established in 1986. This temple was built because the people of Muang Sam Sip District heard of the reputation of Phra Phothinyanathera (Cha Subhattho) of Wat Nong Pa Pong, Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Therefore, they regularly went there to pay homage, listen to the sermon, observe the precepts, and meditate. They saw the benefits of practicing meditation. Many years later, they sought a place to establish a meditation center that would be beneficial to their descendants. On January 2, 1970, they invited Phra Bodhiyanathera (Cha Subhaddo), Phra Mongkolkittitada (Amorn Khemjitto), and Phra Ratcha Sumetthachan (Robert Sumetto) to receive offerings and food. They provided five huts (library halls) for them to stay and asked them to accept it as a branch office of Wat Nong Pah Pong. Phra Bodhiyanathera (Cha Subhaddo) accepted it for consideration. On June 4, 1970, he sent Phra Mongkolkittitada (Amorn Khemjitto) and 11 monks and novices to stay for the first time. It is the 7th branch of Wat Nong Pah Pong, named "Wat Pa Wiwet Tham Chan"
