Assy Plateau Trekking – Experience True Nature in Almaty

If you want to feel the 'nature loved by locals' during your trip to Almaty, **Assy Plateau** is the perfect choice. Situated at an altitude of over 2,800 meters, the vast grasslands and the snowy peaks of the Tian Shan Mountains offer a breathtaking view that you can't find in the city. It takes about two and a half hours by car from Almaty city center, and due to the many off-road sections along the way, a 4WD vehicle is essential. The moment you arrive, you'll feel your breath catch. Around you, yurts (nomadic tents) and grazing horses and sheep create a serene atmosphere, as if time has stopped. Trekking options range from easy trails along the river to challenging routes that climb winding hills and reach the ridges. We chose a round-trip trekking course that took about an hour and a half, walking along wildflowers and clear streams. On clear nights, the plateau is famous for stargazing, with the Milky Way visible in all its glory. Despite being a high-altitude area, the warm sunshine and cool breeze in summer make it perfect for walking. However, the wind can be strong, so be sure to bring a windbreaker and warm clothing. Assy Plateau offers nothing commercial—just pure, untouched nature. It's the ideal place to clear your mind and find peace.
