Wat Chaiyo Worawihan or Wat Ketsaiyo, Ang Thong

This temple has a history that during the reign of King Rama IV, Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (To Phrommarangsi) of Wat Rakhang Khositaram came to build a large Buddha statue in meditation posture or Luang Pho To in the open air, without a temple covering it. Later, during the reign of King Rama V, His Majesty ordered the renovation of Wat Chaiyo. When the temple was built, the foundation had to be rammed. The large Buddha statue could not withstand the shaking and collapsed. Therefore, His Majesty graciously ordered the construction of a new Luang Pho To in the style of Luang Pho To of Wat Kalayanamit and gave it the name "Phra Maha Phutthaphim". The temple of Wat Chaiyo faces the Chao Phraya River. There were four more chapels and pavilions built around the temple and the temple was elevated to a royal temple named "Wat Chaiyo Worawihan".
