Lake Annecy is an Alpine lake in the Haute-Savoie department of France. The lake is about 447 meters above sea level, with a surface area of ​​27.59 square kilometers, a longest point of 14.6 kilometers, a maximum width of 3.3 kilometers, an average depth of 41 meters, and a maximum depth of 82 meters. Lake Annecy was formed about 18,000 years ago by the melting of large glaciers around it, as well as numerous streams in the mountains and powerful groundwater sources. It was named after the city of Annecy in the northwest corner of the lake. If the French part of Lake Geneva, shared by Switzerland and France, is not included, it is the third largest lake in France, after Lake Bourget and Lac de la Grande. It has been called "Europe's cleanest lake" due to strict environmental regulations introduced in the 1960s. At least since 4000 BC, the lakeshore has been a settlement of Gallic tribes. In 62 BC, the Roman legions conquered the Allobroma tribe here and occupied it, and it then became a Roman colony. Today, Lake Annecy is a popular tourist destination, famous for water sports such as paragliding and swimming.
