As the winter sun cast its warm glow on the snow-capped Changbai Mountain, my friends and I embarked on a self-drive trip to this "Pearl of Northeast China." Early in the morning, we boarded the hotel's shuttle and were among the first lucky visitors to reach Tianchi Lake.
