Saint Trophime Church in Arles, France

In the late Roman Empire, Arles became famous as a cultural and religious center, an important place for Roman Christianity and an important foundation for the Christianization of Gaul. In the 12th century, the famous Church of St. Trophim was built here. It is an important pilgrimage church. From here it extends to Toulouse, and then along the Way of St. James to the northwestern Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela. Even today, this route remains one of the greatest pilgrimage routes. Sculptures above the red door frame of St. Trophim's Church, with Christ in the middle, Christ and the Four Gospels on the left and right, St. Mark's lion, St. Luke's ox, St. John's eagle and St. Matthew's angel. The red door frame is separated by pilasters and dark stone columns on the left and right, and contains statues of saints related to the history of Arles. On the left are Saint Bartholomew, Saint James the Great, Saint Trophim, Saint John the Evangelist, and Saint Peter. On the right are St Philip, St James, St Stephen, St Andrew and St Paul. But unfortunately, I have been to Arles countless times, but when I wanted to enter the church, it was closed.
