Roman ruins and Art

After two nights in Aix en Provence, my next destination was Arles. I hadn't read up or researched it. But during a conversation with someone at the hostel. It was pointed out that numerous famous artists including the likes of Vang Gogh and Picasso had taken residence in Arles at some point of time in their life. Infact, in the case of Van Gogh, it was even said to be his most productive time. Having heard of such a thing. I was very curious about Arles now. In the past many years, I keep coming across someone working on their france itinerary and asking me if they should do Arles or Aix en Provence. Now that i have done both these places. I'd say both are worth, I mean if you can stretch two more nights. Do the other place too. No doubt Aix and Provence is the biggest but i thought in terms of sights, activities and things to do, Arles seemed to have a longer list. Anywho, worst case a day trip is what it definitely deserves. I managed to visit most of the Roman ruins sights in Arles. You might wanna consider atleast the Roman amphitheater, the baths of Constantine, st trophime cloister, the Roman theater and the mediaeval graveyard. The Place de la Republique is the main square in Arles. Surrounding the square you’ll find many shops and cafes, as well as the Saint-Trophime church and the town hall. Lastly the van gogh cafe and and the foundation van gogh museum come recommended. #myhiddengems #france #arles #vangogh #cherryblossom2024 #100waysoftravel #summerdestinations #romanruins #europe
