Wat Thipphayawarin or Wat Mangkon Khiao, Chaleng Eia is one of the most worshipped deities in Wat Thipphayawarin. He is the dragon god who guards the sacred well of the temple. In ancient times, the Chinese believed that the dragon god was the guardian deity of every water source, whether it be a well, river, canal, lake or ocean. It is also believed that the dragon god will bring prosperity and rain in the right season. The traditions of the local people in the Yangtze River basin down to Teochew and Hokkien in ancient times worshiped and respected snakes. There is a tradition in Teochew that mentions a ceremony to welcome the snake god in the second month. When the flood season comes, there will be a group of snakes floating in the forest and stuck on the bank. The villagers will invite the snakes back to worship at the village shrine and feed them raw chicken eggs. These snakes do not harm people. After the ceremony, the group of snakes will return through the back channel of the shrine.
