Victory Monument of the Front Palace

🙏 Wat Chana Songkhram Ratchaworawihan, originally located in the middle of rice fields, was called Wat Klang Na. Prince Maha Surasinghanat of the Front Palace reestablished it. 🏕 During the reign of King Rama I, he designated it as a Mon Buddhist temple to honor the Mon soldiers in Prince Maha Surasinghanat's army. 🏕 The prince gathered Mon people to form a military force against the enemy, allowing them to settle near Wat Klang Na and inviting Mon monks to reside there. The locals called it Wat Tong Pu (Mon Buddhist Temple). 🏕 After the prince's military victories, he performed the traditional bathing and changing of attire ceremonies at this temple before returning to the Grand Palace. 🏰 Later, King Rama I ordered the restoration of the temple and designated it as a royal temple, renaming it Wat Chana Songkhram to commemorate the prince's three military victories. 🏰 During King Rama VI's reign, construction began on a structure to house the ashes of the Front Palace royals behind the ordination hall, completed in King Rama VII's reign. The ashes were enshrined there in 1927.
