The art of repairing and releasing the shadows of the past

#InsomniaInExhibition "Urgency of Existence", an art of repair and liberation from the shadows of the past by Kader Attia This exhibition will take us on a deep exploration of repair, both physical and mental, to question the lingering influence of colonialism and the concept of crypto-colonization, which reflects the hidden power that still controls the social, cultural and spiritual fabric of the countries that were colonized. The artist believes that "repair" is not just about making something whole again, but about acknowledging the wounds and making them part of the ongoing story. Similarly, colonial wounds, despite the passage of time, still deeply affect the thoughts, consciousness and social structures. This exhibition is a study of the impact of colonization on a global scale through the eyes of an artist who grew up with the experience of oppression and the struggle to liberate from the shadows of the past. The artist believes that history is not just a story that is recorded, but something that still lives and affects the world today. The artwork reflects the relationship between the past and the present, such as: ✨️ "On Silence", an installation art that uses antique prosthetic legs, scattered in an area resembling the remains of war wounded people. This work reflects the traces of violence from colonialism and war that still affect people's lives to this day. Even if the body is repaired with prosthetic organs, will the minds of the lost be healed? ✨️ "Ghost", an aluminum foil sculpture that simulates a Muslim woman praying, reflects the relationship between religion, identity and capitalism. This work shows "Presence and Absence", a body that appears complete on the outside, but inside is empty, questioning the faith and identity of people in an ever-changing world. ✨️ Repaired Broken Mirror, Untitled Mirror, a series of works using broken mirrors and torn silk to reveal the concept of repair that acknowledges the traces of the past, rather than erasing or making it perfect again. Kader Attia's art acts as a tool to open a conversation about history, justice and healing, using art as a mirror to reflect society and also as an invitation for us to explore ourselves, our culture. And the shadows of the past still surround us 🗓 Now on display - March 16, 2025 📍 Venue: The Jim Thompson Art Center ⏰️ Open daily from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 💵 Admission fee: 50 baht per person 🚘 Private parking available #UrgencyOfExistence #KaderAttia #JimThompsonArtCenter #InsomniaScene #NewYearNewTrip
