Kian An Keng Shrine, Bangkok, an ancient shrine with authentic Chinese art

Kian An Keng Shrine or Kuan Yin Shrine is said to have been built by Hokkien Chinese who accompanied King Taksin the Great. It is an old Chinese shrine of the Kudi Chin community, located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Kalayan Subdistrict, Thon Buri District, Bangkok, between Wat Kalayanamit Woramahawihan and Wat Santa Cruz. It is not known for certain when the shrine was built. Originally, there were two adjacent shrines: the Zhou Si Kong Shrine and the Kuan Yu Shrine. Over time, the shrine deteriorated significantly. During the reign of King Nang Klao, a group of Hokkien people demolished both shrines and rebuilt only one new one, which is the current Kian An Keng Shrine. Kian An Keng Shrine is considered one of the oldest shrines on the Thon Buri side, over a hundred years old. Inside the shrine are valuable items that have been preserved, including some of the most exquisite and complete wooden carvings and mural paintings.
