Wat Rakhang Khositaram Worawihan

Wat Rakhang Khositaram Worawihan is located in Siriraj Subdistrict, Bang Khun Non District, Bangkok. It is a second-class royal temple of the Worawihan type, located in the administrative area of ​​the Mahanikaya sect, Region 1. This temple is an old temple built in the Ayutthaya period. It was originally named Wat Bang Wa Yai (or Bang Wa Yai). During the Thonburi period, King Taksin the Great built a palace near Wat Bang Wa Yai and granted permission to make it a royal temple and the residence of the Supreme Patriarch. During the Rattanakosin period, during the reign of King Rama I, Wat Bang Wa Yai was under the patronage of a royal lady of the Wang Lang Palace, namely Her Royal Highness Princess Thepsudawadi (Sa), the elder sister of King Rama I and the mother of Prince Krom Phra Ratchawang Bowon Sathan Phimuk. She had a palace next to the temple and restored the temple together with King Rama I. A bell was excavated, which was granted permission to be placed at Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram. By making 5 bells to compensate for Wat Bang Wa Yai, he then gave the temple a new name, “Wat Rakhang Khositaram”, in addition to the discovery of bells at this temple and to restore the model of the Ayutthaya period, which also had a temple named Wat Rakhang. In the reign of King Rama IV, he graciously ordered the name of “Wat Rakhang Khositaram” to be changed to “Wat Ratchakanthiyaram” (Khandi means bell), but no one liked to call it by this name, and it was still called Wat Rakhang. #BeautifulTemplesAcrossThailand
